Solent Jubilee Jamboree

Solent Jubilee Rally - 25th May to 5th June

A bumper Solent event to commemorate both the MOA's 21st year as well as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee!

Up to a week and a half not only sailing around the Solent, but also taking in the Old Gaffers Festival in Yarmouth, the Needles Battery, historic Beaulieu, Sail the Wight, Portchester Castle, and Cunard's three Queens leaving Southampton together.

There is scope to join for part of the rally if you don't want to stay for the entire time.

Most of the event is the week before the Jubilee week. Hopefully this will avoid too many crowds, as the bank holiday week promises to be very busy.

Full details and timetable are in the PDF below (click the image to open it)

Please let us know if you are interested, and if so which dates you anticipate joining and leaving. Also let us know if you are considering taking part in Sail the Wight, in which case we will make sure you have all the information. You need to register before the end of April.

We must stress that we need to know the level of interest as soon as possible so that we can make more detailed berthing plans and bookings. This is a busy time of year and we can't afford to wait until the last minute.

Re: Solent Jubilee Jamboree

Im really looking forward to this event . We have a total of nine boats confirmed or interested so far although not all for the whole time.
Five so far for Sail the Wight charity event and it looks like six of seven to escort the the Cunard Queens up the Solent and enjoy Red Arrows and finale fireworks .
There`s still time to join in. Pick and choose your start and finish althogh Monday 28th night we are likely to be out of the Solent weather permitting.
If you want to join in Sail Wight please inform Rick who will advise you how to enter and pay your entrance/donnation. IT IS NOT A RACE....do not mistake it for the round the island race. We will only go round the Island if weather is suitable otrherwise we will join other boats on a course within the Solent.
Also dont be put off by need for sail numbers...there is a way round this.

See you there

Re: Solent Jubilee Jamboree

I'd like to echo Roly's comments, it promises to be an excellent event. Despite being co-organiser, I'm not myself able to join until partway through the first week, due to other priorities. I'm a bit miffed, but that's life!

There's been a change of stopover for the night of 4th June, we'll be staying at Haslar Marina in Portsmouth Harbour instead of going right up to Port Solent. This will enable us to get out into the Solent earlier on 5th, hopefully in time to see the 3 Queens on their way into Southampton.

I've just been looking through the entries for Sail the Wight. The total number of entries is only 34 boats, so our contingent is a significant proportion of the field. In fact we are the club with the largest representation so far. Even East Cowes SC and the Royal Yacht Squadron are only fielding 4 boats each. If anyone else would like to enter, then that would really boost our numbers!

All we need now is some good weather ...

Re: Solent Jubilee Jamboree

This has already been emailed to all members, but I'm posting it here too for completeness ...

Sponsoring Sail the Wight:

As mentioned above, we have 5 boats taking part in the "Sail the Wight", an annual circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight to raise funds for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice on the Island.

All participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship for the event, and I would like to invite all MOA members to sponsor our 5-boat team. If you would like to sponsor us, please just let me know how much you want to contribute (you can reply by PM to this post). I'll let you know once we've completed the event, at which point you can post a cheque to me, payable to the Hospice. I'll then send our total sponsorship to the Hospice on behalf of the MOA.

If you pay tax then the Hospice can benefit from Gift Aid. All you need to do is let me know if your donation qualifies and I'll do the rest.

It would be really good if we can make a substantial collective donation, so I hope very much that you'll feel able to contribute.

The participating boats are:

Aranah, Roly Simpson
Milestone II, Rick Jones
Pen Gwyn, Jim Rotheram
Lonach, Richard Greenway
Hera, Mike Mcnerney

It will be a long and tiring day, starting at 7am!

Re: Solent Jubilee Jamboree

Is this closed to additional boats? I've done the RTI race a couple of times but in bigger boats. Would be a challenge in the mac and I have willing crew.

Re: Solent Jubilee Jamboree

Hi Steve

I believe entry is open until 25th May. Check out the web site - qdjregatta.co.uk. I think the entry fee may have gone up for late entries though.

Even if you don't officially enter, it's a free ocean and there's nothing to stop you sailing round with the rest of us. We're not entering as a race, just sailing round for the hell of it, and for charity sponsorship.

Our whole Solent rally covers a week and a half this year. Assuming you'd want to come for more than just Sail the Wight, when would you want to join and leave? Check out all the information above, but key dates are Fri 25 May, Thu 31 May, and Tue 5 jun.

To go into more details etc, best to email me directly:
