Great to hear interest already. This event looks like taking place at the start of the school holidays which for most people is 24th July onwards so maybe the 26th , Friday is realistic. but extension sailing could take place before or after.
Although I prposed it at the meeting it is likely that Rod and Jill Wassell and Paul Jacobs will be involved.
Plymouth is a really good area for sailing of all standards and in all weathers since the Sound is proected from the main waves by the large barrier and there are largele rivers that c
an be explored. Lots of interesting Naval stuff around and the possibility of exploring Plymouth itself.
This rally could link up with any who are looking for a more extensive West Coast cruising holiday or just be a weekend in company to get to know your boat.
More detail and photos etc will follow.

Plymouth Area July Event

Hi, I am once again trying to manoeuvre myself into position so that I can attend part of this event if it is still in the planning, although I confess recent manoeuvrings have not been very successful. I am performing (don't laugh) the role of Heathcliff in an Ilkley Playhouse production of Wuthering Heights at the Minack Theatre (Porthcurno) from July 29th to August 2nd. I am travelling down to stay in Looe (half an hour from Plymouth) on Wednesday 24th July and would therefore be interested in joining in, saying hello, having a sail with, any members who might be gathered on Thursday 25th or Friday 26th. Alternatively, if there are any members still around on Sunday 4th, Monday 5th or Tuesday 6th I will be back in Looe. It's a shame my boat and thespian interests have clashed like this but something might be salvaged - and of course, you'd all be welcome at the Minack, a unique amphitheatre overlooking the sea where it's bound to be windy and wet, the perfect setting for WH. Hi Quentin , yes this rally is still on the cards although Id like to see a bit more interest shown if it is out there. We have timed the event to coincide with the start of school holidays so those constrained by that may not be able to get down till late Thursday or Friday but I am expecting to be there sometime Thusday and have a bit of a sail Friday so maybe we can link up. Hopefully we will have a get together at Paul Jacobs place on the Tamar on the Saturday evening.
Proposed schedule for later in the week to be posted soon but final plans will depend on weather and experience/desire of crews. We might well get to Looe !
Im afraid I shall nt be able to stay around after the 4th.

good news to hear positive replies from Pen Gwyn and Avocet. I have researched again the launch possibilities. Although Paul has published a possibilty near the Tamar bridge I feel that parjking there is a bit teuous for an extended trip and no easy next dorr marina so I looked at Queen Annes Battery , which is on the town side and Mountbatten Centre where we launched before....Quen Annes will charge 195.00 for launch/recovery , storage of trailer and car plus a night either side of launch /recovery , while Mountain will do a deal of 35.00 for trailer and car for the week and havent yet said they will charge for slip usage...presume 10-20. teir owm pontoon cost about 15.00 last time but next door big marina was moor shealtered and better facilities. Last time we just used the marina for first night. Road accesss to St Annes is probably better but I think not worth the additional cost . ...so I plan for The Mountbatten Centre. I have made provisional arrangement with them and will post travel details etc in due course.
It might be nice to actually visit Plymouth this time so I would plan to include a night at one of the other marinas, probably Mayflower Marina which is close to the hiostoric Royal William victualling yard. I waplanning to drive down on Thursday 25th with a view to a bit of sailing on the Sound with any others but I suspect a number might not be free till Friday 26th. Tide is not a huge problem for launching but we should avoid low which is at 15.16 BST on 26th , since slip is slimy then . Should be ok +/- 2hrs.
I think we can leave the marina booking till we know who is coming and when but if late arrivals on Friday are likely then we should book Plymouth Yacht haven since it is next door.
Provision plan would be for Saturday explore up the Tamar/Lyner/Stgermans river as far as tide allows but unless we are off w the lark will probably wont get further than a lunch anchorage at Dandy Hole , half way up St Germans river. Foating off as tide rises again after 54pm we would go up to Cargreen and hope to pick moorings off Paul Jacobs place for BBQ. Next day to sail in Plymouth Sound and either return to an alternative Plymouth marina or go on to River Yealm to enter ideally before LW +/- 1hr ( 16.39 BST) . If weather set fair for sailing along the coast I would suggest we do Yealm early and push on but otherwise a trip to Cawsand bay and back would be fine on the Sunday.
Depending on wind direction and weather we can opt to go either up towards Salcombe or Westwards to Fowey. With the former I would be interested to go up to Kingsbridge and if weather good go around Start Point to Dartmouth . Then either back the way we came or else do last times plan of a land return to collect trailers....I will enquire about places to reover in the Dart but Torquay is good . The journey to or from Salcome can be broken by anchoring in Hope Cove or in the lea of Burgh Island and if a northerly wind an entry into the small drying River Avon could be possible.
If we went to Fowey then on the return the tide woud be suitable for a mid-day entry into Polperro and/or Looe.
I would be very interested to hear from all those interested in this trip, with some idea how long you would plan to stay and what you would hope to do.
So far we have Aranah, Avocet , Pen Gwyn , and Pilchard (unless Pengwyn or Avocet are hungry)
hoping for Hera and anyone else...? someone new.
Hopefully Paul Jacobs will be able to join in the sailing but I understand that he may tied up.

Hi Roly,
Avocet plan is to drive to Plymouth Friday 26th arriving early afternoon. I think that we should be able to launch late afternoon on the rising tide and would then look for a marina berth that night. Happy to go wherever for the next few days and particularly look forward to a Paul Jacobs BBQ if the invitation is there! We have to return home on Wednesday 31st and neap tides that day should allow recovery at almost any time.
Not much sailing breeze around at the moment, but no doubt that will change before then.
looking forward to a great weekend.

Great to hear confirmation that Avocet will be there.
We also have Alum ( Mac C ) skippered and crewed by Richard and Mandy Copage with 2 child slaves . They are expected 25th also as are all boats except Aranah. I am still planning to travel Thursday to avoid weekend traffic ( providing a last minute trailer glitch has been sorted!)
Just to confirm we are expected at Mountbatten Water Activity Centre where there are two free public slipways and an area for parking our trailers with cars for a special rate of 35.00 for the week.

I shall ring to book Plymouth Yacht Haven for the night for all 5 boats.
I have a change of crew sun/monday and the Copages are not sure how low they will stay for so suspect we shall all be around Pymouth area till at least the Tuesday.
