This summer rally at Cardiff will be based over the long weekend of the Bank Holiday (28 - 31 August), with further possibilities, for those interested, to extend their stay on the South Coast of Wales.
The old Cardiff docks have been redeveloped in the last decade to create Cardiff Bay, a large freshwater lake for sailing and water sports, offering sheltered waters protected by a barrier with 3 locks(free!), out to the open sea.
It is envisaged that at least one day will be spent here. Modern Cardiff Bay is a lively place to visit with many waterside pubs, clubs, shops and even the new Opera House. Launching will be at Barry Yacht Club and the program will be very much developed around the wishes of the attendees. Trailer/car parking is no problem here (small donation to the club). There is also a club bar (very reasonable).
Depending on weather and tides, some short sea passages could be considered across the Bristol Channel. A 14 mile passage to Watchet, a beautiful Somerset village, is firmly on the cards.
