Hi Roly

Hi Roly

I could be interested in joining you in my boat on 13th-14th (can't do next weekend), weather permitting! I've got it on a mooring for the duration of May, as I need to do some re-structuring of the trailer, so I want to make the most of it.

Let me know if you decide to go out on those dates.

Cheers

Hi Roly,  I am planning on

Hi Roly, I am planning on leaving the wash Sunday or Monday and heading down to Solent but won't be there until Thursday or Friday, I won't be in a rush back if your about?

Let me know if you make it to

Let me know if you make it to Poole - might be able to join you. My boat isn't quite ready for a longer passage yet, but she is at Swanage right now. Best wishes to all, Ian

Hi Ian, we will be at Swanage

Hi Ian, we will be at Swanage on Saturday, apparently it's carnival weekend so I was told. So hopping on some fireworks. Any recommendations about anchoring in the bay would be welcome.

Hi Andrew. Is it this coming

Hi Andrew. Is it this coming Saturday you are in Swanage? Are you around on the water next week. Would be great to meet up Andrew ( and Ian ).

Roly

Yes, hopefully leaving

Yes, hopefully leaving tonight and going into the water at Davie's boatyard Poole tomorrow afternoon. The boatyard is next to Cobb's quay.

Andrew, the slipway at Davis

Andrew, the slipway at Davis's Boatyard is very steep. I have had my winch strap snap when recovering there and would suggest that you use additional ropes to secure the boat on the trailer until you are in the water. The higher the tide, the better.

Probably teaching granny to suck eggs but just in case this is your first time there..

Hi David, thanks for the

Hi David, thanks for the heads up, one thing for sure I won't be using Davis's slipway anymore. Yes the slipway is steep but that wasn't the problem. One problem is the water even at high tide is only just deep enough. If you drop your rudders and keel you will get them into mud. Another problem is not enough room to turn the boat around especially as you need to have your keel and rudders a third of the way up. Think that I might try looking for another slipway to come out on at the end of the week.🤔

Andrew, the best slipway in

Andrew, the best slipway in Poole Harbour is at Cobbs Quay marina but they closed it to the general public during lockdown and only allow their contractors to use it now. You could try pleading, I don't know if they will be flexible.

There are also slipways at Ridge Wharf marina and Redcliff Farm Campsite on the River Frome but neither are really suitable for anything longer than about 5m. Rockley Park has a slipway but I have heard that the current flows quickly making it difficult to use which leaves the public slipway at Baiter Park. I have used this several times but it it is very shallow and only possible at high tide. The trailer needs pushing out a long way (and needs to be submerged) and you need a long rope to pull the whole lot out to the water's edge. It's possible but not ideal.

It's springs on Friday /Saturday with 2.3m at 12.00 noon so plenty of depth whichever you choose. Good luck.
