Many years ago we sailed north from Kiel to some lovely ports and islands on the east coast of Jutland. In September we propose to return to what the Pilot book suggests is one of the great cruising grounds in the world and we would be delighted if any Mac owners would like to join us.
Plan is to take the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg and then drive about 60 miles to launch at Fredericia which is an ideal centre for cruising in the area. Lots of pleasant harbours, Danish food, reportedly cheaper mooring charges, little tide, eyeball navigation, sheltered waters.
No fixed dates yet, but sometime early-mid-September appeals at the moment. DFDS Ferries offer free travel for caravans in September, but have yet to be persuaded that a Mac on a trailer is equal to a caravan!

Suggested Plan for consideration/discussion amongst those interested:
Saturday 24 to Monday 26th August: Attend Broads Rally
Tuesday 27th August: Drive to Harwich for 17.45 DFDS Ferry to Esbjerg.
Wednesday 28th: Arrive Esbjerg 1300hrs. Drive 60 miles to Fredericia. Prepare & Launch.
Thursday 29th August to Thursday 12th September: Cruising and/or touring Denmark.
Friday 13th September: 18.45 Ferry from Esbjerg
Saturday 14th: Arrive Harwich 1200hrs; drive home.
An alternative for those not participating in the Broads Rally and wishing to take advantage of cheaper fares that apply after August, ferry departing Harwich on Monday 2nd September could be considered.

For info: DFDS Ferries Harwich-Esbjerg offer 10% saving for bookings made by 28th February. We will probably book ourselves plus Avocet on the outward crossing Tuesday 27th August, returning Friday 13th September.

I've had some very helpful advice and information from David Phillips who keeps his yacht Sandpiper in Denmark and knows the area well. Fredericia is not a recommended marina for a variety of reasons. Aabenraa is a bit further to drive but is right in the middle of what I would regard as the perfect cruising area and has a marina with two slipways and a self-lifting electric crane apparently available for only £12! He says that there are also discounts for pensioners although I will believe that when we get it!.

HI , REGARDING THE POSSIBLE DANISH TRIP, COULD I ADD SOME FURTHER INFO' REGARDING AABENRAA MARINA. YOU CAN VISIT marinaguide.dk and see details for yourself. I DID SAY TO BILL THAT THE RAMP WAS NOT DEEP ENOUGHT TO LAUNCH A MAC AS IT IS ONLY DESIGNED FOR DINGHYS. HOWEVER THERE WAS A CHEAP SELF-SERVICE CRANE TO HIRE (THIS WILL NEED CONFIRMING ).AS FOR DISCOUNTS NORMAL OVERNIGHT £14 APPROX PENSIONERS £11.50 SO 25 % DISCOUNT.
AS FOR THE DANISH FERRY THE EARLIER YOU BOOK THE CHEAPER THE FARE. HOPE THIS HELPS. DAVID PHILLIPS.
