Windermere, end of season

Friday 17th September to Monday 20th September 2010

This is a repeat of our successful "warm down" session in freshwater. It should prove to be a popular relaxing event amidst the glorious scenery of The Lake District where there's often some fun sailing to be had from the interesting winds coming down off the hills.

Easy sheltered launching at Windermere Marina with pontoon mooring and all the facilities you would expect from this favourite weekend haunt of Manchester property developers and lottery winners. Happily, very few of the gin palaces ever leave the marina, so once on the water you will feel you almost own the lake. Alternatively, launch at Ferry Nab public slipway and stay on mooring buoys each night.

Both options have parking for cars and trailers and toilet/shower facilities. The marina has shorepower.

We won't be going far, so if necessary you can join us at any time over the weekend.

I will provide more information on prices soon.

We will arrange evening meals out at local pubs/restaurants/fish and chips and there should be opportunities for picnic/bbq lunches.

Because of a loophole in the regulations it is now possible to buy a licence for the lake for just £5 plus a few pounds for number plates.

We'll be out of the high season so things should be pretty relaxed. However, there is very limited availability at the marina in particular, so if you are interested please register your interest as soon as possible to help with negotiations with the marina.

Note: Are you one of the several Mac owners who moor at Windermere? If so, we do hope you will join us - even if you are only able to come along for one day for lunch or an evening meal it would be nice to meet you - do get in touch.

Re: Windermere, end of season

The time has now come to start putting in place the arrangements for the Windermere rally

I have spoken to the people at Windermere Marina Village and it looks like they can do the same deal as last year for up to about half a dozen boats ie £110 for 3 nights including elec, showers etc, launching, car park, trailer park. The public swinging moorings are a bit cheaper but require dinghy access to the shore.

We will need to make a firm booking sooner rather than later, so now is the time to let me know.

If you definitely intend coming, then please let me know. If you are not sure, then also please let me know now so that I can gauge how to handle the discussions with the marina

Hi Mike,

Avocet should be a definite for Windermere unless.........the weather forecast on the day is too awful to contemplate! Probably arriving Friday and departing Monday.
