Re: May / June - River Shannon
Submitted by tom.obrien on
Hi I would love to have some good company of Mac's with us when we take to the water at Beleek N.Ireland in May.
DATE SET FOR Friday 2nd May 2014
Three boats have committed to the start date and another hopeful.
DUSTY 26X . FLASH 26X . KITTY DAN 26M.
Launch at Beleek public Slipway and prepare boats for an early start on Saturday. Masts will have to wait to be raised untill we pass under a bridge south of Beleek.
Beleek to Enniskellen will be a new area of Irish inland waterways that I have not covered yet . From Enniskellen to the mouth of the river Shannon at Loophead Co. Clare all three of us have done many times . In the passed we had Mac's from the UK join us and would love your company again. The whole trip will be covered over many weekends and extended weekends . There are three boats committed to the start at Beleek and others will join us as we move down to the River Shannon .When we reach Lanesbouro at the top of Lough Ree we expect to meet up with at least 5 other boats. At the other end of Lough Ree - Athlone we will more than likely loose some boats .The idea is that boats will join in and drop out as we move from Lake to Lake. When we get to Lough Derg more Mac's will join in and some may stay for the trip to Limerick City and on to Kilrush.
The return trip to Limerick City is ONLY 40 Miles with a very good slipway for recovery ( and its Free) or continue to Killaloe -Lough Derg and again the slipways are free to use in many parts of this beautiful lake.
For information on the Irish Inlandwaterways check http://www.waterwaysireland.org
It would be wise to have a chart for the Lower Lough Erne as there are many Islands .
If help is required in anyway such as launching, mast raising navigation etc for this trip they can contact me.
ANYONE WISHING TO JOIN US ALONG THE WAY YOU CAN CONTACT ME BELOW.
