Dartmouth

The Dartmouth Regatta takes place annually in late August. The River Dart is very attractive and navigable up to Totnes and the South Devon coast has many nearby sailing destinations. It is possible to launch from a narrow slipway in town or there is also better launching facilities just up river at Blackness Marine or one of the other nearby ports like Brixham.

Please let us know if you would be interested in attending this event.

Re: Dartmouth

I am very interested in this one. I've been to Dartmouth as a land-lubber, and taken a river-boat trip from Totnes down to Dartmouth. The scenery is wonderful, and Dartmouth is a very pleasant little town. Regatta time should be extra fun, and there is scope for everything from river cruising, sheltered sailing in the estuary, as well as venturing out to sea. Something to suit everyone!

Re: Dartmouth

We would like this - depending on the possible dates - Tenacity has been up to Totnes and back out the other end.

Re: Dartmouth

Glad to act as organizer for a get-together. I have a mooring in Mill Creek near Dartmouth where my boat stays most of the year and can reserve spaces on deep water visitors pontoons. Good slip and trailer storage at Blackness Marine, near Dittisham. Can think about possible program and glad to hear ideas. Anyone interested can contact me on

or through this forum.

Re: Dartmouth

Hi Bill, thanks for your timely post, and your offer to organise the event.

We are in the process of pulling together an events programme for next year, and have already pencilled this in for the last full week of August, to coincide with the regatta.

We'd very much appreciate if you could put together an outline programme for publication in the next newsletter. There's no need to cover every detail, as the main purpose is to set dates and locations so that people who need to book and organise holidays well in advance can do so.

Many thanks.

Re: Dartmouth

Definitely keen to do this one, please put me down for this and keep me posted :)

Been to Dartmouth regularly, both by sea and land. Regatta week has a really good vibe, but very busy! Great sailing area, got friends in Salcombe too; so be good to get together there.

Re: Dartmouth

This sounds like fun! I have open time from early July to Mid-August, and would love to take part in a couple of events with (soon to be renamed) Logan's Run.

Re: Dartmouth

Hello
Update for Dartmouth Regatta events can be found at http://www.dartmouthregatta.co.uk/ . This is always quite a busy event but being on the water we can easily get away, ether up river as far as Totnes or out to sea to visit local beaches like Blackpool sands. This is quite an informal arrangement so we can be quite flexible depending on weather and tides. My own boat "Summer Wine" has a mooring adjacent to the visitors pontoon near the Dartmouth Higher Ferry.

There is a public slip near the Higher Ferry. I have launched and recovered several times from here but, although free, it is quite busy and narrow. Probably not viable at Regatta. Another option would be to launch about 3 miles upstream at Dittisham at http://www.blacknessmarine.co.uk/ . Cars and trailers can be left here so probably the most relaxing option. If you don't want to sleep on the boat then try http://www.justbdartmouth.com/ but early booking recommended. There are rooms in the centre of town, walking distance from your boat.

Whatever the choice I will be available to lend a hand. Hope to meet you then. My mobile is 07834 250 145 and I live just up the hill in Dartmouth.

Re: Dartmouth

Hello All,

Are we any further forward with dates for this rally? I can't make both west country rallies but I'd like to attend one of them.

Re: Dartmouth

The rally is down in the calendar for 20-28 Aug, and I'm planning to be there between those dates.

Not sure exactly what day I'll arrive, maybe the Sunday.

Bill - assuming we launch at Dittisham, what mooring facilities are available?

Re: Dartmouth

Hello.

There are a number of (non reservation) visitor pontoons around the harbour. At regatta time these tend to double up so it is usually possible to find somewhere. Worst case senario there is a an anchorage area on the Kingswear side.

As the date for this event

As the date for this event approaches, can we firm up on arrangements?

Bill - are you definitely proposing Dittisham for launch & recovery, and is it possible to book moorings rather than trust to luck? BTW you can find the notes for event organisers in the Members Area under Documents, it sets out what's expected of organisers.

I'm also not sure who is definitely coming, or what the exact preferred start and finish dates are!

Given the obvious lack of interest in this event, I can't see it taking place. Maybe, after Poole/Solent and Plymouth, it's one event too many on the South Coast!

If there really are no other takers I'll abandon my plans to go.

Sorry Quentin, I have other things arranged this weekend and next week. Poole & Plymouth were a bit too close together for me, hence I planned for Dartmouth to space things out a bit!
