Are you suggesting a round the island?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.

I wasn't, are you? :D

I haven't been in touch with Andy yet to work out what the format will be.

Round the Island is a long way, esp. starting from the Hamble (probably the best launching point for most people), and the south of the isle is pretty bereft of decent overnight stops. Ventnor has a harbour - just - but more than two boats is a crowd.

Andy - are you there, any thoughts?

Re: Solent event 16 - 17 July

d be happy to be part of a round the Island sometime but I dont think it is at all feasible or right for the Solent Event. In the past this event has been good to allow people from various places and abilities to come and sail on the South Coast and I think it needs to be quite inclusive. We dont need to be too ambitios but we need to explore some interesting places and hto have a bad weather plan.
How about start at Hamble, saturday to Beulieu via wherever , Sunday to Newtown Creek and then home.?
Bad weather option to sail and explore places on Southampton Water.

Re: Solent event 16 - 17 July

Update, after a quick discussion between me & Andy.

Launch at the Hamble pm on Fri 15 July, and meet for evening meal (Andy will be organising this part, more details to follow).

Saturday 16th head west in the Solent, stopping into either Beaulieu River or Newtown River for lunch. Then on to Yarmouth for overnight (I will pre-book moorings & restaurant).

Sunday 17th make a prompt start to get the best of the tide and sail directly back to the Hamble. Hopefully get back mid-afternoon to give time to pull out for those going home Sunday.

With luck we will follow tradition and the return journey will incorporate a Spetsai race!

Please let me know soonest if you're interested in joining, even if you're not yet sure. I'd like to book provisional moorings at Yarmouth so I need at least a guesstimate of numbers.

Hope to see you there.

Can we book a tentative plcae for Dixie our 26m. We would be launching from Hayling Island so will have a bit of catching up to do !!! Which moorings were you thinking of at Yarmouth ? We have used the berths at Harrold Hayes before which are walk a shore.

You are on the list!

Would you aim to join us on the Hamble Friday night, or sail directly from Hayling on the Saturday morning? If the latter, maybe we can rendezvous at lunch time. This can be sorted out nearer the date.

The Yarmouth berths have been completely re-vamped over last winter so most are now walk-ashore pontoons anyway (to the main quay). I've been talking to the harbour-master, but I'll check out Hayles as well - good idea.

Re: Solent event 16 - 17 July

Restless will be there. Directions prefferably with a F6-7 on the nose and an F9 on the way home please :D
We'll do the usual I think and get there a little late. If anyone has any scuba diving gear please bring it and I'll see if I can find my prop from last year.

Re: Solent event 16 - 17 July

Here's an update on arrangements for Yarmouth for the Saturday evening.

I am hoping to book walk-ashore berths - for those who may not know, Yarmouth harbour has been extensively re-vamped over last winter with a much better arrangement of pontoons and finger berths so that most are walk-ashore.

We will eat at the Wheatsheaf. Shaun, the landlord, can do a fixed-price set menu if we want, or we can just eat off the pub menu. Obviously we can only take the fixed-price if we all (or at least the substantial majority) go for it. I will also need menu choices a few days in advance. It's a better class of food than the pub menu though. They also have daily specials in addition to the regular menu - take pot luck on those!

I've attached the fixed-price and regular menus, please have a look and let me know which you'd prefer to go for. If you'd like the fixed-price don't worry about specific choices at this point, I'm just trying to see if enough would like it to make it viable.
