Lines aft

Forums:

Interesting pics from Rick in the gallery on reefing lines etc.

I'm in the process of doing the same - bought most of the fittings - just need to get going with the drill.

I'm doing the same continuous loop for main halyard/pull down as Rick has done (because I have lazy jacks and "pack-a-main" but the sail won't drop fully into the bag which rather defeats the object so I'm hoping to be able to pull it down fully without having to climb over the sprayhood!)

Plus reefing line, topping lift, vang,

Good Value Marina

Forums:

Avocet spent Saturday night last weekend at Port Solent Marina. Cost was only £16.35 including electricity and superb facilities. Available at all states of tide through a lock. Highly recommended. Lots of bars, restaurants, cinema, etc nearby, although no grocery shopping whatsoever - Tesco more than a mile walk away. Noted that there are at least two Mac 26 yachts based there. (Compare Mercury Marina on the Hamble at £26 for mediocre facilities).

new boat cheap!!

Forums:

I got a call from a french friend from the west coast the other day, tells me there's a nice 36' yacht going cheap as chips, as long as I can get her out of the marina by end of march :D
Is the fleet going to grow to 4??
I checked it out... :o

Ouch..

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.

Drying Mooring

Forums:

Morning all.

I'm a new member although without a Mac - I have a 19' bilge keeler on a drying mooring in Hayling Island. I'm very tempted by the 26C because of its ligher weight over the X and M, However, an open question .. " does anyone keep their Mac on a drying mooring, or is it though too much threat to the hull and or getting a clogged up keel? -" any views /experience welcome ( I posted this earlier today, but in the web site move it seems to have got lost)

Just bought a boat, sorry its not a Mac yet!

Forums:

Have been actively looking for an X or M for some time now, but have not manged to find one at the right price.
Was that interested, even thought about importing them!
Anyway am still looking, but in the meantime bought a lovely and beautifully looked after Sealine 19 sport/cruiser. This will enable us to motor around the south coast having her at the park and launch facility in Littlehampton. Also could trailer it to some Association events!
OK so no sailing at the moment, but one day our X or M will come!

Bow fenders

Forums:

When I first got the Mac one of my biggest problems was
coming alongside a jetty when there was a strong wind
If landing on the windward side all was well until you had
to leave
On the lee side as soon as the boat stopped away it would go

Bucket and Chuck it

Forums:

It is hard to believe that all but one members of UKMOA use
this sophisticated method of toileting or are members of the take it home
brigade.
I am about to drill a 51 mm hole in the bottom of my hull.
I want to drill one hole in the right place.
Do not fit it when I have just bought it does not help,
As fellow members please help,

Macgregor Yachts -UK importer in Falmouth closed down

Forums:

I was extreamly sorry to read in the new newsletter, that the Falmouth based importer for Macgregors has had to close due to the recesion. When I bought my used 'M' last year, I found Richard Hallowes very very helpful and a fount of Mac knowledge. It sounds as if he now has work with another business in the same area, and I can only wish him well and say how deflated I was to hear of their demise.
Let's hope that Macgregors sort out their position in the UK soon?

Trailer Board

Forums:

The trailer board is a pain to store when away so I cut it in half and fitted a hinge
I cut the wire, pushed it down one of the trailer tubes and fitted a socket on the end
The metal brackets attach it to the rudders using the transit bolts
Now the board is half as long and there is about a metre of wire
