Use for old sails?

Forums:

When I replaced my sails nearly 3 years ago I shoved the old main and jib up in the loft. I'm currently trying to reduce all my junk, and wondering why I'm keeping them!

Is there any use for old sails, other than chucking them on the tip? It's impractical to carry them around as spares, and the jib's ripped anyway. Any thoughts?

Venture of Newport 23

Forums:

In case you don't know, The Venture class was the predecessor to the modern day Mac.

I've had an enquiry from Chris McNally who asks the following:-

"I bought my boat in USA when i was living there & as its not worth much or hard to sell when i am here & its there I am thinking of having shipped over .
Do you know are there any more of this little cutter over here or in Ireland . Or if I was to trade up later would there be any demand , i.e. is there a following?"

Does anybody know

Forums:

I recently bought a 26x which had never been sailed (only motored) and want to know the length of the jib and genoa sheets
as when i put up the mast this weekend they seem to be missing
Also has anybody launched from Bater Park Poole? (old name) As i'm based in Oxfordshire does anybody know of a good place
to keep it along the Solent area (about 60 to 90 min: drive away from me)
As the boat was never named i will call it ALCEDO atthis (common kingfisher in latin)

iPad use as chartplotter

Forums:

Readers may have recently seen positive articles in the boating press about the use of an IPad as an alternative to a gps chart plotter .
I had recently bought a wifi only ipad2 and was disappointed to hear in the articles that it was necessary to purchase an IPad with a data plan and sim card in order for the gps function to work when out of wifi range.
The good news for all wifi only iPad owner is that it is possible to purchase a gps receiver from Amazon.com that is compatible with all iPads that allows you to use a wifi only set when on the sea.

Well, as some of you may know, I keep my M on the Tamar, and had decided to leave her on the mooring for a bit longer this year, in case I managed to get time for a few late season sails. I did in fact get out a couple of weeks ago, very little wind, but we did fly the Asymmetrical Spinnaker for the first time, which was exciting, though it was only blowing a gentle force 1-2, just right for a novice in fact.

Advice for Mac newest member

Forums:

Hi to all. I have recently joined the mac owners club and found it to be very interesting of like minded people. Having recently attained official pensional age, I have invested in a macgregor 26 M ,"SEA BREEZE", and based it in the Medway , Kent, as yet not sailed it, as there is a little TLC needed . Having been used to more heavier craft, eg , Westerlys, I read with interest the "dinghy" characteristics of gusty conditions making handling quite interestingly challenging.

New Member Seeking Advice

Forums:

Hi, I am Nick Randle a brand new member? I am planning to buy a boat in the next 9 months and having done my research I'm fairly certain that a Magcgregor 26X or possibly M, is what I'm looking for. However I haven't actually seen one yet! I live in East Devon and none of the local boat yards seems to have any for sale. Before I start trekking round the country I,m wondering whether there is a Mac owner in Devon, Somerset, or Dorset, (possibly Cornwall) who would be kind enough to give me a look at their boat and share any tips on what I should look out for when buying.
