Another Newbie 'Hello'

Forums:

Hi Folks,
My name is Ray and I have just purchased a 26x.
In the past my wife Pauline and I have owned 2 powerboats Scroo U 1 and Scroo U 2 (We were all young once :D ) an Alacrity 18 (Spindrifter) a SnapDragon 24 (bought as a project but sold on without sailing through lack of time) and a Leisure 22 (Trinkamalee).

We haven't decided on a name for the Mac yet....we are still thinking about it. ;)

Looking forward to being part of the forum and the advice to be gained from experienced owners.

Ray

Antifouling the centreboard

Forums:

Hello everyone, we're new to this!

We have just driven to Crete and will be antifouling our boat tomorrow. We’ve clearly not given enough thought to antifouling the centreboard. Can anyone advise whether it is essential to do the centreboard. The issues are:-

Difficult to raise the boat high enough to let the centreboard down

The raising and lowering of our centreboard is not easy. A collection of barnacles etc would make it impossible?

Trailering advice

Forums:

Do you check the little bracket that supports the brake rod on your trailer? (West Mersea type - don't know about later models)

This ought to be part of your trailer checking because the bracket can often hit the lip of the ramp when launching especially if the ramp angle is sharp. The bracket then bends and can result in your brake rod not sliding freely with obvious consequences.

Rudder pins and Mac spares

Forums:

Hi, I was unfortunate enough to bust open the top of one of my rudders due to the sacrificial rudder pin not being so sacrificial, well it was my own fault, aluminium is a bit too tough for the job.
I have searched the internet to find some proper nylon sacrificial rudder pins and found a couple of US based companies. The pins are cheap enough $7.95 but the postage a whoping $95. Does anyone know where I can find 3/8 shear rudder pins in the UK? Is there any Mac spares distributor in the UK?
Thanks

Just saying Hello

Forums:

Hi, my name is Philip Hastings, presently the newest member of the MOA, and, like many before me, boatless at the moment!
I have done a fair amount of sailing in the past, mostly crewing for friends off Burnham on Crouch in various craft, and one cross-channel trip from Gosport to Cherbourg, Alderney and back on a 60 footer, but nothing much for the last ten years. My seamanship skills are at the stage where I know enough to know that I don't know enough!! So am looking to do an RYA Day Skipper course soon.
