Engine Battery

Forums:

While on holiday the engine battery failed
Fortunately I have one of the £20 Quick Starts
A gel battery in a plastic box
It was then two years old and has worked for the last 3 years
It fitts neatly in the pedistal
In fact I fitted 2 just incase
I have a 15 HP engine I use the boat for 3 months in the summer and start it a few times a day
It turns the engine over with out difficulity and I guess two would have no problem with a 50HP

Boat Security

Forums:

Happy New Year to you All
We live up a quiet lane and our boat Sushi is parked in the drive under canvas
My neighbour knocked on the door yesterday to say that he spotted two gentlemen coming out of my driveway and left quickly in a white Transit van and he suspected they were checking out the boat.
So I would invite comments on security matters.

Anchors and ropes.

Forums:

I would be grateful for various ideas on the best type and size of anchor that folk are using, and how much chain and rope should be carried. In fact if it comes to that, how many and what sized fenders are recommended and the same with mooring ropes - what lengths are most useful and what size?

November Newsletter

Forums:

Thanks to all concerned for another great issue of the newsletter.
Special thanks to new members Andrew and Will for taking the time to document their learning experiences.
I think I wrote in a recent Commodore's Log about the universal appeal of the Mac which seems to be borne out time and time again by stories of folk being able to fulfil dreams and find new challenges.
The message has to be - keep it going - enjoy - and keep us posted!

trim tabs and planing

Forums:

Hello mac owners, winter is pretty boring! so thought i would try and turn wasted time into productive time by generating some activity on the mac forum.(the American site says we dont use forums)My yamaha 50 betdl has a trim tab gauge but i dont know what setting it should show? i know that in theory when motoring when up on the plane you back off the tilt untill the bow comes down a bit but stays on the plane,or do you set up using the trim gauge thingy?
also is it worth trying to plane when the ballast tanks are full?
