Mac 26X 'Isobel'

Forums:

Some help, please.

Does anyone know anything of the history of the above? I believe she may have been resident in Jersey until last year. She's now in the Colchester area I think and is for sale.

Details of her history are, however, a little sketchy. And the current owner lives on mainland Europe and proposes only to come over to finalise details once the sale has been agreed.

Any pointers would be most welcome. Thanks.

Does anyone have a Loos gauge I can borrow

Forums:

Hi Guys,

I put Sky's the Limit on her mooring on Saturday and took her out for a first sail yesterday.

I had planned to tighten her cap shrouds but when I got there they looked fairly snug - to my inexperienced eye - and so I didn't.

However, when sailing - with just the 140% Genoa - I noticed that it's luff (ie. the forestay) appeared very slack; easy to compare with it's halyard.

Of course I should have looked at all this on land but had been assured by the PO that the standing rigging had been checked by a MAC specialist.

Thinking of buying a 26X

Forums:

I hope it's ok to post this: if not I'm sure someone will tell me!

I'm considering buying a 26x, but would very much like to have the opportunity to see and, ideally sail and motor in one before I do.

I live close to Southampton, so much of the south coast is within range if someone would be kind enough to let me crew for them for a day?

Please drop me a line if anyone can help.

Thanks in advance

Stu

Fire extinguishers

Forums:

I thought I'd start a new topic, as the one on the Origo stove accident has wandered around a bit!

I've just been at the boat show and seen a new type of extinguisher on sale. I was wondering what the fire aficionados here think of it. The outfit selling it is here: www.boatsearch.earth/fire/, you need to go to the Shop link to see the range.

Origo stove

Forums:

I thought I'd just share my latest near death experience (I think this is the right forum?). Over the weekend we were parked in our regular spot onboard our old 26c at East Head in Chichester Harbour. A few minutes after I'd boiled the kettle I smelled burning plastic. After a bit of inside and outside sniffing I decided we'd got a bit of a problem so turned the power off linking the burning plastic smell to something electrical.

Engine Hours survey

Forums:

[previously posted as a comment to an unrelated article - moved to more appropriate location here]

Hi

just wondering about the engine hours members clock up I noted a Mac for sale on eBay Mac26 from 2006 with apparently 65 engine hours, I wondered if this was an original engine or new could it be possible that a ten year old engine had only 65 hours on the clock?

Our Mac26 2005 with a Yamaha 50 we have clocked up sailing, motor sailing and powering 1059 hours regularly serviced and still seemingly fine (crossed fingers) what's the longevity of these motors?
