50hp+?

Forums:

Ok, I'm gonna go there.....

so, I know it's popular in the US and possibly Australia but has anyone in our neck of the woods fitted a larger outboard than a 50hp to their Mac X or M? If so did you modify the transom?

i am a keen wake-boarder and one of the appealing features of the Mac (I have a '96 X) was the ability to ski behind the boat. For those who have tried, the claimed 24mph seems a little out of reach with a 50hp. I don't want to be greedy and put a whopping 140 on the back as I've seen before(!) but a nice 70 perhaps to get a more reliable cruising speed?

Hello X or M

Forums:

Hi Guys thought I had better say hello having just joined the site.

Firstly Hello Everybody I hope that you are all enjoying a nice weekend.

I have been thinking of getting a Mac for some time at present I have an Eagle 525 ( 17ft ) that I keep on a mooring during the summer and on the trailer at home in the winter. I really like the idea of being able to trailer the Boat home saving storage charges and having it very handy to do any work on. I also believe that having it trailerable is an asset when coming to sale.

Asda cooler

Forums:

When I bought my 2000 26X it had what I assume was the original American mega cooler filling the entire under seat section of the aft table seat. It sat in a fibre glass box which I think is standard.

This seemed like a waste of storage space because I could not see how I needed that much cooler space.

I bought a smaller cooler in Asda for £10 and a couple of complimentary freezer blocks that slot into the lid for £1 this week.

New owner questions

Forums:

Hi

I have just bought a 26X and have removed the mast and rigging today to clean/ check for wear. All looks good except that I do not understand the furling system and am concerned about the back stay.

The furling system has slots on both sides, on one side there is a wider gap about 3 inches long that I assume is there to allow the sail slugs to be inserted. The halyard is on the opposite side running down the slot.

Hi there.

Hi, my name is James Brine and I've just bought a great example of the 26x from one of your members. I look forward to meeting some of you and joining discussions. I've had great experiences with other sailing forums and can see that this is a pro active group too. I'm in the Bristol / Gloucester area and can see there are a few members around me which is nice as in previous clubs everyone was miles away! Hopefully see you on the water. J

Thank You Everyone.

Pauline and I have just sold our 26X to a Club Member, and would like to thank all the members of the MacGregor Owners Club for their kindness, advice and help when we first joined.
The purchase of a Jeanneau in Spain and our visits there limited our use of the MacGregor to local waters and we had a lot of fun in our Swallows and Amazons county.
I am currently involved with our Yacht Club in the setting up of a class of Sonatas to race locally and have just purchased one myself, so I am going to try another aspect of being on the water.

New 26X - suggestions wanted

Forums:

Hi

We are hopefully buying a 26X in the next couple of weeks. We live in Worcestershire.

I am keen to spend some time learning about the boat and practicing how to sail it with as few navigational distractions as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions about a good location to spend a couple of long weekends that is:
- deep water with a decent amount of space
- no difficult tides
- not too busy (March)
- easy launching, parking and visitors berths
I am thinking of Windemere, Poole or Cardiff at the moment but would welcome ideas / comments.
