Rigger Advice Please

Forums:

My forestay, which utilizes a furler, has at least 2 frayed cable strands at the top. Being new to all of this, I am pretty sure I want to replace the forestay, but being in the Peterborough area, it looks like my choices for a rigger are limited. There is a Chandlery in Wisbech that appears to be able to do it, or I could use one of the online riggers. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Which Marina?

Forums:

I would love feedback on using River Nene as a cruising base. The only advantage I can see for me (being close to Peterborough) is proximity. My other considered option is the Ipswitch area.

While closer, it seems that the drive to and through either King's Lynn or Wisbech to get to the Barbour would be a nightmare. Levington is much further, but nearly all motorway.

Thoughts?

Basic Navigation Course

Forums:

Hi Guys & Girls,

At the recent AGM I mentioned that a basic Naviagation Course / Refresher course might be of interest to existing members / new members.

A friend of mine (Martin Hemingway) is an ex Naval Reserve Officer and involved with the local sea cadets in Worcester as a training officer (formerly HM Fearless). He would be prepared to run
a one day course for a maximum of six people to introduce them to Navigation including charts, passage planning and tides etc.

Hotel for AGM

Forums:

If anyone plans on staying overnight for the AGM, are you interested in coordinating hotel bookings so as to stay in the same place as other members?

If so, please use this thread to let others know your plans, or suggest ideas of where to stay and hopefully link up arrangements.

As a starter, the lowest cost nearby seems to be the Comfort Inn Reading West, out along the A4.

If you're planning to stay the Saturday night, don't forget that it's Valentine's day so many restaurants will be booked up.

Spray Dodgers

Forums:

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has bought some spray dodgers recently and if so what size was ordered.

Would be great to get a pair made with pocketS with 'Lonach' on before the start of the new season.

If you have a boat on your drive could you post some measurement to save me a 190 mile round trip between Worcester & Cardiff!

Cheers :D

UK Canal Network

Forums:

Is the Mac only for use in the sea? Of course not. Being retired and new 'M' owner members Gail and I are considering an extended trip of the UK Canal network. Having spent many happy times cruising the Medway on our previosly owned river boat, we are now thinking of an extended trip from Borwick on the Lancaster Canal through the system along the Grand Union to London. With the principal in mind of avoiding duplication, has a cruise been previously planned by members in the past. We thought there may be a topic back there in the archives of the MOA forum that we could re visit.

London Boat Show 2015

Forums:

We have tickets for the London Boat Show in January, and I wondered if the MOA have a stand or whatever there? I know MacGregor is no more as a brand, but presumably the Tattoo (is that right?) will have a presence of some sort?

We're going on Tuesday 13th January, so if any of you are there on the same day and want to share a coffee and a chat, I'd be really happy to meet you there :) .
