Carbon Monoxide Warning

Forums:

Following another fatal accident involving Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning on board boats. The MAIB has issued a safety bulletin.

As many Macs owners use a Bimini and we all have petrol outboards the following Marine Accident Investigation Branch report may well be of concern. The surprising thing about this incident is that the exhaust was being blown back into the cover and reached dangerous levels of CO in just 3 minutes!

Blue Water Yachts (US parts supplier for Macs) - feedback

Forums:

Just thought I'd feedback on my first purchase from Blue Water Yachts - http://www.bwyachts.com.

I wanted a boom bail (their terminology, not sure what we call it:)) for my vang install and a new vent plug as mine is pretty rotten.

Ordering was fairly easy if a little convoluted. What pleasantly surprised me was the cost which was a little over £25 including p&p and all taxes and also the fact that I received my items in, I think, 5 working days from my order.

26X Centreboard

Forums:

Know this should probably be confined to Wanted section but wondering if there is a spare centreboard for a 26X out there? Might be able to advise me as to where best I can get one if someone has already done so? Visited the coast last week and left mine in the Atlantic somewhere.

Manoeuvering!

Forums:

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here. I've been receiving the posts that everyone shares and it's great that everyone is helping each other.

We bought our MacGregor 26X earlier this year and have now started to go out in it but have had a couple of issues which are being sorted.

One particular issue I'd like some advice on is moving around with the engine on. In the handbook it says that you should not use the engine with the water ballast in place. Is she more responsive when the ballast is empty? Especially when mooring (moving slowly)?

Getting Macerella Home

Forums:

We launched Macerella for the first time on Thursday after an eventful toe back from Wales. We picked her up a couple of weeks ago after the seller towed Her to a service station 10 miles the other side of Cardiff.

That was the start of the fun after assuring us that the trailer was good to go he decided to replace both sets of bearings both sets of brakes and put 2 new wheels and tyres on all at his expense.

Boarding 26M from inflatable tender??

Forums:

Having overcome all difficulties arising from my maiden launch (not without much hilarity) I finally arrived on my new mooring; albeit thoroughly soaked:)

Being very tired from my exertions and very wet, I was looking forward to going home for a warm bath.

However, looking down at my tender (which I remembered to bring) I started to wonder how to get into it without puncturing it on the prop or doing the splits and ending in the drink.

I did just manage it BUT I wonder what other folk do in this regard.

26M Road Transportation (Mast position)

Forums:

Firstly I wish to thank all members for the wealth of knowledge and information this forum hoards!!! hugely beneficial to a novice as I am. Thank you all.

A few years ago I had the life changing experience of loosing my wife of 29 years to cancer, I'm sure this is all too familiar a story to many members. The outcome of it all was that a re-evaluation of life was undertaken and a fully loaded secondhand Mac 26M, Jack Sound was re-located from Portishead (Bristol) to Aberdeenshire.

HELP! - Furling Genoa prob??

Forums:

I'm just hoisting my furling Genoa for the first time in my life but don't understand what's going on.

I've got the sail in the groove and hoisted to the top of its track BUT when I start to furl it by rotating the blade thingy, it wants to wind the halyard around the blade (forestay).

Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong, I can't see how else to do it ?

Beaching the boat

Forums:

Another lesson in my steep MacGregor learning curve.

I went sailing at the weekend in Milford Haven. I decided to sail to Marloes (spelling?) beach and drive the boat up the shallow sandy beach on a rising tide. All worked well until we tried to push the boat back into enough water to float it and leave. The small looking breaking waves made it impossible even for two big men and two small ladies.

The power of the waves pushing the boat up the sand was too strong which surprised me. The wave height was less than 1 foot as they broke on the sand.
