Trip advice - wind strength

Forums:

Just planning an overnight trip from Falmouth to Newlyn on Tuesday, returning Wednesday.

Only thing is I'm slightly concerned about wind strength, being pretty inexperienced plus single-handed. It's currently forecast for 15 gusting 24kts off the Lizard; my feeling is to wait for more settled weather, what do you think?

Response to Commodore's Log, issue 98

Forums:

Another great issue. Many thanks, John

Responding to our Commodore's request for costs associated with trailer parking, I pay an extra £60.00 a year to keep my trailer at Bradwell Waterside Marina on top of the £2,200.00 approx annual berthing fee.

A propos widening the membership, yes, let's survey the membership to see if there is a consensus so that we can proceed. While doing this we could save postage and include another survey asking who would prefer to receive the magazine electronically instead of by post?

Isles of Scilly

Forums:

Having enjoyed my first coastal hop from Falmouth to Fowey my thoughts are turning to Scilly.

I just took delivery of Mark Fishwick's West Country Cruising Companion and I'm looking forward to visiting the Isles; hopefully later in the season.

I was wondering if any members have experience of taking a Mac there and also whether they'd be any interest in an event next year.

Hydraulic steering mod

Forums:

Good morning,

We have recently taken ownership of a 26X, Just Add Water. And very lovely she is, too.

She is now based at Hythe, on the Solent. I think she would benefit from a small modification to the hydraulic steering mechanism to help slow speed manoeuvring.

Can anyone suggest a local engineer who would be able to have a look and give me an opinion? Or possibly a local member could give me the benefit of their wisdom.

I'm also looking for recommendations for servicing the outboard(s) at the end of the season

Thanks in advance

Stu

Sad Mac

Forums:

I am based at Bradwell Waterside Marina on the River Blackwater. A few pontoons up from me is a sad looking 26M (she has a blue hull so I assume she must be a M) in need of some TLC. Her deck is greenish with algae and there is a forest of weed below her waterline. Otherwise she looks in fairly good shape as much as I can see of her externals. She is called Sea Jay and hasn't been sailed or moved from her moorings for over 2 years as far as I can ascertain.

Insurance

Forums:

Hello all. If all goes well, Judy and I will soon be the proud owners of a Mac 26X (i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed) based in the Solent. I'm sure we'll be turning to the forum for help on a regular basis, but first up:

Any advice as to insurance?

Thanks so much. Stu
