Rubbing strake

Forums:

If any of you, like me, were considering having a go at your soggy rubbing strake, these pictures, taken yesterday of an anonymous X, will give a fair indication of what you might find. Is this typical? Where would you start?

Re engining my Mac 26x

Forums:

So we have finally launched our new to us Mac 26X Marmite. We left it alongside a quay overnight to dry out on soft sand and as the tide came up the hull to deck seam on the transom leaked and flooded our boat which promptly sank with water rising to half the way up the cabin, gutted!! We are going to have to re-engine it and I possibly have an option on an 18 month old Evinrude 90HP ETec. I know this is up there in terms of power but they are light and we were struggling to get any more than 14 knots out of the fitted 50 HP Yamaha.

Drying moorings

Forums:

How well do Macs take to drying moorings —- esp in the Solent/Hamble/Itchen. And if they’re OK with the mud, any suggestions as to where I can find reasonably priced pontoon based berths? My current mooring opp Hythe Sailing Club is just too exposed to the wash passing traffic. Thx as ever. Stu

Mac 26X rigging

Forums:

After years of dreaming my wife and I have just become the proud owners a Mac 26X (Marmite). Our new boat despite being very well specked up, roller furler, lazy jacks, fridge etc has no adjustable backstay, clew out haul or even a kicker. We sail out of the Teign Estuary in South Devon and there is another Mac here which the owner has had for years. He said that I don't need an adjustable backstay, clew outhaul or kicker. I would have thought a kicker at least was essential to enhance the Macs sailing ability, especially up wind.

26X Centreboard woes

Forums:

Hello all

Following on from my earlier post, it's entirely possible that the centreboard is now somewhere at the bottom of the Solent.

Two things:

Does anyone have a spare centreboard or one they would consider parting with?

Will it be safe to sail her or motor her without a centreboard?

Any and all advice very much welcome.

Many thanks

Stu

Mac 26M in gusty conditions

Forums:

As many of you will be aware this is my first full season with ASHANTI 2008M. Today I was sailing on the Medway wind was forecast F3 (9-10Kts) max 15Kts.

We were on a run/broad reach on our way down river with full sail and achieved 4-6 Kts, on our return the conditions were gusty with winds 10 -15 Kts (F4) gusting to 21Kts. We were beating back and becoming overpowered with the full main so reefed it (we have only one reef), also reefed the jib but in the gusts ASHANTI still felt overpowered heeling to more than 30 degrees on occasions.
