Trailer tyres

Forums:

Hello

Our 2005 Macgregor trailer is being serviced (seems evening needs renewing!) and we also need to replace the tyres as they may be the originals or close to it, although not worn or perished.

My question is whether others have replaced tyres with special trailer tyres or simply radial car tyres? Any recommendations on brand would be appreciated.

Jubilee Sailing Trust - Appeal

Forums:

Dear MOA members,

The JST (Jubilee Sailing Trust) is a charity that runs two tall ships providing adventure voyages for disabled and able bodied crews.
I've sailed with them several times and can wholeheartedly commend them as an amazing, inspiring and challenging organisation.

I don't get involved in promoting charities but today I'll make an exception. They need help. They have until TOMORROW to raise a significant amount of money or they may have to cease their activities. What would then happen to the ships Lord Nelson and Tenacious is unknown.

Broken 26X mast

Forums:

Yesterday my 26X broke it's mast just off Salcombe Devon in fairly light winds. It is now laid out on my car park. Apparently this is not uncommon and broke at the spreader point where the large bolt goes through. I now have to think if this can be repaired with a sleeve or replaced altogether.

Clogged centreboards

Forums:

I have a mud mooring. Centreboards do get jammed with mud and in our case it contains minute molluscs which cause real problems in the casing. Have any owners fitted overlapping Mylar strips along the opening which allow the centreboard to pass through but keep out unwanted detritus. In my dinghy racing days this was common practice to streamline the hull and reduce turbulence.

26M Daggerboard

duncan.cairney's picture

For anyone that may be interested, I have just had a new daggerboard made for my 26M by a fibreglass fabricator in the Glasgow area using Mike Clarke's mould. The daggerboard seems well constructed and perfectly serviceable, see pictures below. The finish I expect is perhaps not as smooth as the factory produced item from BW Yachts but a fraction of the price at £300 plus VAT and shipping.

Fixings

Forums:

Hi all

I've got an extra fairlead to all for the furling line, which leads to the most scary question of fixings on a mac

What does everyone use to secure anything

Above deck - bearing blocks, deck organisers, clothes, fairleads, extra winches for Genoa, solar panel arch near transom etc

mast - extra cleat, pulleys etc

Below deck - lights, electrical sockets, bilge pumps, batteries etc

Would be grateful of your advice before I pick up my drill

Thanks in advance

Stephen and Julia
