Hello to all the members,

I bought my Mac 19 about 7 or 8 years ago - after a long period of studying pretty much every bit and piece of info, comment and picture that could be found on the entire world wide web relating to trailer/sailor small boats for the novice sailor.. And after much procrastinating and doubt decided on the somewhat unusual 19M.

Cleaning the hull - with toilet cleaner?

Forums:

ok well it's that time of year again for us Mac-mooring folk; when we get to see what's below the waterline after 6.5 months in the briny.

Whilst googling in preparation for this annual festival I came across the suggestion that toilet cleaner was good for hull cleaning.

Anyway, I added it to my list of "to do when the boat is out" and duly bought 3 bottles of Sainsbury's "Toilet Cleaner POWER"

Tiller to outboard

Forums:

Hello

I have a MacGregor 26c with a Honda 15 outboard I would like to make a tiller to outboard link , as I am in the middle of 100 boats all on swigging moorings . I find I cannot get a good turn to pick up my mooring it is a nightmare sometimes. I often do not go out because of the difficulty. I think the answer is a tiller to outboard link .Has anyone made one or can advise me how I can make one . Your help would be most welcome.

Genoa Measurement

Forums:

Hi Neil McCann in Fermanagh a new member. Had the pleasure of meeting many members in Ireland.

I have a 26x and seeking dimensions for a new Genoa that Downer's Sailmakers of Dun Laoighre (Dublin) are making for me. I tried various sites to get a ready made one and if someone there knows if they can be obtained then I would go and get one off the peg instead.

I would appreciate any help and advice,

Best wishes,

Neil

New Tow Beast?

Forums:

I am considering giving up my beloved Ford Ranger 4x4, which pulls my 26M with no trouble and even tugs it off the steep slipways with ease. The replacement might be a Volvo XC90 with the D5 diesel engine and auto gearbox.

I have never had to worry about ball weight, etc. Has anyone towed with this vehicle?

Newly to sailing needs advice

Forums:

Hi All

Just joined the Association. Ann and I have recently qualified as Day Skippers (cheated, did it in Greece because of the hot weather but obviously missed the tidal section!) and we were not looking to buy a boat until we saw the Macgregor 26. Can it be as good as it says on the tin??

A whole load of questions if the members don't mind some possibly naive questions from an oldy, new to sailing (should have tried it much earlier).

Daggerboard woes

Forums:

Hello

I'm in my first season with a Mac.

Having been unable to raise the daggerboard on my 26X 'Just Add Water', no matter how hard I tried, I had her taken out of the water to inspect the assembly for damage. I didn't want to pull too hard on the line (with a winch for example) in case I made matters worse. No damage was found. When she was out of the water, the daggerboard moved freely on the line.

My First Race

Forums:

I would have written this up for the Magazine but I was too excited to take pics so here are the words.

Ok, so I'm just over halfway through my first full season as a Mac owner (or any kind of boat owner, come to that) and I realise that I have, on my doorstep, a terrific opportunity to get to know my boat better and to refine my sailing skills. Yes, it's the Falmouth Week sailing regatta.
