Publishing your photos

I'm sure everyone enjoys looking at the photo galleries that members have created on the site - I think it's one of the best features. Many thanks to all those who've posted their pictures.

The facility is available to all members to upload photos, but so far only a few have actually got to grips with the process! I'll admit that it's not entirely intuitive, so I've been looking at ways to make it easier to use, especially for the inexperienced.

Log in to web site

I’ve been looking through the postings on the Big Mac and notice that “Stumpy John” commented that he has to create a new password every time. I thought it was something I was doing wrong so have not made a fussy about it.

I wonder if it’s anything to do with the fact that I use almost exclusively Apple gear to log in Mac Mini, iPad, iPhone .

Any advice would be great, as I often want to reply to a post but can’t get in without creating a new password .

Slipway directory

It's been brought to my attention by our newest member, Leigh Ross (Hello Leigh!) that we don't actually have a list of slipways any more, despite the fact we refer to one on our "Benefits of membership" page. This is a bit of a faux pas.

Historically we did have one on the previous incarnation of the site, but it was very much out of date and not being maintained, so it wasn't carried over. We've tended to rely on members posting on the forum about slipways they use, but it's somewhat haphazard and hard to search.

Add a second login to your membership

New web site feature ...

... you can add a login for a second person sharing your membership.

We have for a long time accepted two names on one membership (spouses, partners, sailing buddies, whatever). We have also allowed both people to have their own individual logins for the web site, but it's required an administrator (i.e. me!) to set it up.

Now, you can add a second login yourself. The second person must have their own email address, and to add them do the following:

Slide show on home page

Forums: 

Eagle-eyed web site users may have already noticed a change to our home page - the single (rather old!) photo has been replaced by a continuous slide-show of photos. Of course I guess many regular site users just go straight to the forum pages, and may not look at the home page very often.

New feature - knowledge base

Hello all

I've added a new feature to the web site called Knowledge Base (this is not the forum section with the same name, but something new).

You can get to it from the Resources menu, and you must be logged in to see it.

It's a hierarchical index, in the same style as the User Guide, and is another way of getting to the most useful pages that are already on the site. So I haven't written lots of new pages (!), but provided a better way of getting to the most useful stuff that's already there.
