Cape Wrath gained...I gained it myself in '93, on a cycle tour, with kids, also raising funds...see pics below (mine first, Richard's second, and some Kerswell poetry..
We left the Scottish Isles today, Sailed around cape wrath far away
Prepared to do the northern isles
I hope this gives you all a smile
From stornoway we saw scotish land
Like a saw on its back and left to stand
Thegranite mountains where the teeth
And rocky valleys beneath
And so to cape Wrath we came
A sunny day to warm our game
And on to loch eribol to sleep
Thurso tomorrow for to keep
We'll, nearly time for Richard to start heading South in the North Sea ! He makes it sound easy but I'm sure there must be various tribulations. This trip will do a lot to show the scope of the Mac 26.
Update from Marion, Thurso gained and a tv interview....
When Richard landed at Thurso, not long ago, He met and was interviewed by Brandon McPhee of the local TV station. Hopefully, this extra publicity, with his amazing sail around Britain and Scotland alone, will help in his quest to raise funds for Give the World a Shot (Covid jabs for third world countries and Orphans in the Wild (supporting and caring for orphans, vulnerable children and foster families in Mufindi, Tz) 🎙🎥📺
Loch Eribol to Scrabster or Thurso I was due for an interview for a spotlight music program at 1800 realised i had 20 miles to go, so i opened peggy up, arriving 20 minutes late , but it was exhilerating covering the ground at 17 knots and using Peggys wings. Sadly alot of petrol too.
Richard has had a few days in Scrabster and Thurso, fueling up and carrying out maintenance. All being well he is now heading for the Orkneys and later, Shetland. Marion posted this yesterday.
Richard has just phoned, he's all fuelled up and ready to leave for Kirkwall, Orkneys tomorrow morning, following on up to Fair Isle the next day and if weather is permitting, Lerwick in the Shetlands on the 10th. Wishing you good sailing Richard.
Scrabster to Kirkwall today across the Pentland firth up to the North of Orkney and back down to Kirkwall 55.3 nm.the ship Rainbow Spirit was stopped not anchored. The sea stack is the famous old man of hoy.
She and her team were extremely helpful. They ran Richard down to refuel his cans and made sure he got fresh supplies in. Thank you so much Fiona for your super support, Richard was giving me your praises! She says the shot was photo-bombed by the local wildlife!
Interpreting Richard's poem, I think he set off from Kirkwall with a view to reaching Fair Isle, half way to Shetland, and ran out of time so beached on the sands of Sanday, one of the Northerly Orkney, overnight.

THE NORTHERN LEG
Today peggy left the UK shore
For Northern isles by the score
The sky was blue with clouds of white
The sea was dark an awsum sight
For a while the wind filled our sail
But halfway to the northern turn that failed
But at that turn sail worked again
So down Kirkwall and no rain
Tomoz I leave for a Fair isle place
It is out in an open space
A little isle on its own
In the sea all alone
Then to Shetland the Northern stop
Thats the viking one at the top
The furthest point from Penzance
Its so far up I'm ascance

A DAY ON THE BEACH
Peggy said im bored today
A holiday is just our way
To liven up and have some fun
Cumon I'll show you how its dun
The nearest Orkney isle was sandy
Could be better if it was called candy
Peggy went and rammed the beach
Any harder I'd have to screech
The water went i couldn't move
The keel left a little grove
So off I got with bucket and spade
And made sand castles for the maid.
The isle is sandy and we stopped over to avoid arroving at fairisle in the dark.
