I'm concerned that we don't have any more names of people planning to attend the AGM/Social . PLEASE POST HERE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO COME BUT HAVENT SAID YET.
Also I was hoping that we would have some more proposals and discussion about boating together this year. With regard to doing some French canal exploration I'm not sure I can lan to do that this year since it will need time to plan and a reasonable window in yhe calendar. I suggest however we plan to go to do it in 2026. A few years back a group of Macs cruised from LeHavre up the Seine to Paris . It is true that the boat skipper should have CEVNI , and your VHF radio needs to be modified for the European channel. ICC can be obtained via RYA if you have done a day skipper course.
North Wales , ie around Anglesey a d Conwy was muted for our annual uk Big Mac but we could do with some local knowledge input there. I'd like to know how much support there is especially from those based towards the north of UK. Otherwise somewhere along the South Coast.
I'm still definitely up for sailing in and around the Solent from early May but have to be back by 18th May latest. I'm also up for a cross Channel trip at some point this year. I'm also interested to go with a group over to Ireland by ferry. Also to consider a sail across to Isle of Man or Irland with anyone capable.
Finally let's not forget there was interest in Windermere last year it didn't happen for various reasons. All for discussion , on line but ideally in person on 1st March !
Thanks for all this Roly, I am booked in at Stratford for the Friday and Saturday - though not planning to go to the theatre as yet, I might have a look at that. I can look at some tides for Anglesey/North Wales, and always excited about the thought of going to Ireland!
Sorry Roly, thought I had replied previously! Julie and I will be coming to the AGM for lunch and evening but only as a day visit. As for activities, we will definitely take part in something subject to personal diary commitments. Cheers, Mark.
i can't join the AGM unfortunately as have long standing family thing on the 1st.
As ever, I have to factor kids, holidays and weather into the equation.
Definitely on for anything south coast. I'd love to do Scillys/ Ireland / France / Channel Islands, but could not commit at this point. My major challenge with long term planning is getting weather that is conducive to kids having fun!
Unfortunately Jules and I will not be attending the AGM as we will be moving house that week. We will definitely join the Solent event if it goes ahead and would also be very interested in Scotland or the Isles of Sciĺly as these are both on our list for future visits.
So , it sounds like there is interest for Solent sailing again. Does early May suit ? Is that the BH weekend ? plus maybe some days after or before? I am not free the late May BH.
In the past we had started the year with an inland waterway trip at Easter , especially if it is late , like this year. Any interest? ...equally could be planned for end of season.
Liz and I have been discussing the possibility of an Anglesea event as the main Big Mac. We need to guage the interest in that by the time we get to 1st March. Also to decide when is the best date?...Do we stick with the very first week of Summer hols?
I am free and keen do do some adventurous sailing earlier in July and in early August . Channel ? Falmouth / Scillies ? Isle of Man.? Scotland ? A trip to Ireland or Brittany by ferry is also possible but maybe best to plan something for next year.
Lastly , we didn't fit in a Windermere sail last year so we need some shout outs for that too.
These are just a few suggestions but we need more ideas for coastal and inland trips.
See you at the AGM maybe....ideally we need numbers for catering by 2 weeks in advance so if you haven't told us lease post here if you plan to come.
Here follows a very rough sketch of a potential Circumnavigation of Anglesey (sp) which can be fleshed out if anyone is interested.
Proposed route: (in ideal weather) (distances v. approx.)
Day 1: Launch at Dinas Boatyard, Felinheli (about halfway through the Menai Strait), store trailers there, he won’t let us launch ourselves. Other slips around but not much trailer storage (except for marinas). Sail SW to Abermenai Point (~5NM), overnight in Abermenai pool anchorage, BBQ. (Or depending on times and weather, cross the bar to Pilots Cove, Llanddwyn - another 3NM.)
Day 2: across Caernarfon Bar down to Porth Dinllaen (Ty Coch Inn once voted the 2nd best beach bar in the world), (~14NM) pick up a mooring or anchor overnight, eat in the pub hopefully or BBQ.
Day 3: head north across Caernarfon Bay to Rhoscolyn, Borth Wen (~18NM), anchor in the bay, dine in the White Eagle or BBQ aboard.
Day 4: Rhoscolyn to Holyhead Harbour, (~12NM), visitors moorings, visit Holyhead Sailing Club or other hostelries in Holyhead, also shopping in town. Various bays to pause in on the way round.
Day 5: Holyhead to Bull Bay or Llaneilian (~18NM) anchorages, or other bays along the way, no pubs that I can think of.
Day 6: Llaneilian (?) to Moelfre (~7NM), anchorage with pubs and a chip shop.
Day 7: Moelfre back to Felinheli (~17NM) or detours up the Conwy River. Tide times through the Swellies to be considered, various pubs on the way.
Or longer hops and shorter time, could get round in 2 days (1 day with engine flat out!)
If weather is really bad, there is the option of staying in the Menai Strait, Victoria Dock, Caernarfon, maybe up to the Conwy River (2 big marinas up there) depending on wind direction.
Potential dates: Wednesday-Wednesday 16-23 July (if school holidays not an issue) neap tides, Saturday-Saturday 19-26 July goes over a spring tide, some early mornings might be needed.
Wednesday-Wednesday 30 July-6 August neap tides. Saturday-Saturday 2-9 August neap up to a spring tide.
We can discuss further at the AGM if anyone fancies - I’ll bring my charts.
And also a CEVNI endorsement on the ICC for inland waterways. (A multiple choice test on inland waterways rules and regs etc)

But you can hire a boat on the waterways without any qualification?!!!!
