Trailer

Is anyone selling a trailer for a 26s, I am desperate for one.

Can the boat go on a trailer with side roller bunks like the xtreme ones or does it need to be like the original? What type of trailer have people used as replacements, anyone got companies they can recommend?

Thanks

Second hand  bespoke Mac

Second hand bespoke Mac trailers are like hens teeth.

I sold my M (without a trailer) to a chap who does not subscribe to this forum but who bought a trailer with rollers especially for the journey from Essex to Scotland. He got there safely and without damage.

Lizard trailers in Cornwall and West Mersea Trailers, Essex have plans for constructing Mac Trailers.

Members reading this who have bought from these suppliers may comment on service and quality but several years ago Lizard were voted best on this forum.

Good Luck

former Commodore and boatless.

The problem with rollers - as

The problem with rollers - as opposed to cross member bunks - is twofold (at least for the X). Firstly it can be more difficult to crane the boat on and off the trailer and secondly it is more difficult to drop and replace the centreboard.

I replaced the original X trailer a few years ago for a twin axle Mersea Trailer rated at 2000Kg. The build quality is excellent. They even took the original trailer back in part exchange.

Hi Greg, my C came on a roller trailer. Worked fine if a little noisy in travel. I cannot recall right now the makers name but if it comes to me I will let you know.

I have a Lizard trailer for our M, well constructed, but unadjustable and the nose weight was ludicrous and required substantial alteration. Go elsewhere.

The 26C (and S) has the ballast tank central to the hull which is different to the X and M and I wouldnt be confident relying on a trailer using central rollers of the type I guess David refers to. Does anyone have direct experience?

However the boats main longitudinal strength probably lies in that tank. I suspect a roller coaster trailer with a good number of rollers aligned to take best advantage of the outer edge of the tank would work well. It will also not foul the centre board.

The advantage of the roller coasters is that the boat doesn't have to be floated off. With my M even though I adapted a flat bed to roller coaster meaning it sits higher than on a properly designed roller coaster the boat comes off and on far easier than with the beds.

A break back trailer like Quentin's would be even better but I doubt you will find one.

I got a quote fro De Graff

I got a quote fro De Graaff trailers in Chobham a while ago. It was more than I wanted to spend so put some more paint over the rust on the old one.

I am in the same boat so to speak, Mersea are showing three Mac trailers on their website but I was struggling to get them to answer e-mails however they have been back to me recently and a new trailer for my Mac X would be about £5400.00

SBS trailers state they could manufacture one for just a little less, both have 6-8 weeks lead time.
