Just come back from our first extended trip this year and wonder how members deal with the two big issues we faced, namely storage and water.
Storage:, the large berth at the back is crammed with dinghy, ropes, spare fenders etc so we packed our bags and when on passage the bags are placed in the v-berth. However for the rest of the the time we're constantly moving one thing to access another, with bags everywhere. I though of hanging nets up at the front of the boat but has anyone found a neat convenient way to store food, clothes etc. so they're easily accessible but secure?
Water: we were surprised at how much fresh water we needed. We have plenty of 5 ltr containers but they end up under the saloon table which isn't great. How do other members store enough water for an extended trip, or is it a case of filling up regularly?
Hi David, I believe you have an X so it's hard for me to comment as I had an M. However I recall x owners having several containers of fresh water in area under v berth so as to make it side locker good for food or other storage. If you are not going to use the double berth at stern then I knew one coupe who had a series of storage boxes on ropes . Not sure it's possible on X but I had a 50l bladder under the M rear berth....Not for drinking but washing up. ...had a fill point at the stern. I made a section at the end of the galley to slot 5 x 2l water bottles for drinking . If you're adventurous you must look at the work done by Bjorn Sjoling who had a boat called Restless. You can still find the website. He fitted oven, fridge and pull out larder all into the galley area.
Regarding your clothes bags , it's good to have one tidy bag each that you can ace on adjacent seat at night and back onto bed in morning. Nets can was it start to look cluttered. Try to show everything away.
Great to hear you've been on your first trip. Where did you go?
Roly
Thanks Roly, we explored the Western Solent including Newtown River, Keyhaven, Bucklers Hard and also a night at Lymington Yacht Haven which was luxury but at £40.00 per night quite pricey!
I like the idea of a flexible bladder under the rear berth. I replaced the flipper taps with electric ones which draw from a 15 Litre container under the V-berth but this doesn't last long. It looks like there is room there is room there for a larger container, maybe a flexible one.
