The Clyde, Kyles of Bute, Tarbert and Loch Fyne

Roly, Ros, Nicola and I are tentatively planning to meet in Largs on Saturday 25th May with a view to setting off on an exploration of the Clyde, Bute. Loch Fyne area on Sunday 26th. For Nicola and I it will be a 5 day trip but Roly and Ros might stay for 2 weeks or more. If anyone else is interested in joining this informal Mac gathering, let us know on the forum.

This will be my fourth visit to the area and when the weather is kind it is wonderful but if the forecast is for low pressure systems dominating and high winds, I probably wont set off. Jim Rotheram, ex Mac owner has his new boat moored in Tarbert, so a meet up with Jim might be on the cards.

The area is quite sheltered with lots of marinas and anchoring options - the social options are good too, with plenty of pubs and restaurants.

Let us know if you are interested joining us.

Hi,

Hi,

im not sure if we will be able to bring Ptarmigan down as we will likely still be shaking her down on Loch Earn until later in June. We might however drive down to meet the group at a marina when the schedule is known

Hi Roly and Quentin

Hi Roly and Quentin

Great that you are coming north. I was hoping to have a Clyde cruise sometime this year. I've just launched in Loch Lomond and have a bit of sorting to do. Unfortunately I have an Austin rally at home the weekend ending 27th May and will need to clear up, but if you are staying on the Clyde a while I could possibly lift out and see about launching at Rhu over the hill and catch up somewhere. I will do some research and try and arrange crew. Keep me posted with your plans. It would be great fun but I can't promise.

Hi Leigh and Anneke, glad you

Hi Leigh and Anneke, glad you are both interested in saying hello. I hope all the stars align and this trip comes off. It is definitely on at the moment and I will update as and when there are developments and firm plans - the start date is firm for me. Not so far away now. Quentin

Quick update with one week to

Quick update with one week to go. Nicola and I are planning to arrive Largs early afternoon Saturday and sail to Port Bannatyne on Sunday. We thought a day on Bute might be rewarding. Tuesday up and down the Kyles and across to Tarbert. Day off in Tarbert. Thursday back to Largs, depart Friday. All weather dependent. Fingers crossed.

Unfortunately my mother

Unfortunately my mother became ill while I was away and I have just returned to uk to find her languishing in hospital. As the main family support for her I don't feel I can leave again until she's on the mend and settled elsewhere which will be after the bank holiday weekend at least. At present I'm still hoping to make it then but not sure.

Sorry to disappoint you Quentin and Nicola .

Not to worry Roly, your mum

Not to worry Roly, your mum comes first and I hope things go well. Hope you get up eventually.

Hi

We are a bit late launching Ptarmigan so won’t be joining though we’d have loved to meet up. Spending this week on final rigging etc and then launch at Loch Earn next weekend. We will likely keep her on the Loch this year getting the systems sorted and then next year find a place to keep her on the west coast.

So, here we are in Largs, a day later than scheduled, rigged and ready to go but blowing a hoolie outside. Hoping for calmer conditions tomorrow. It's a palava MacGregoring but worth it - even if we stay on the hard. Expecting little sleep. Fingers crossed.

Hi Quentin,

Hi Quentin,

Sorry to hear about the poor weather up there but I guess it will give you time to get a bit wet on the inside !!

Just to make you a bit envious I was out on ASHANTI for the first time on Saturday and came back with a red nose - most of it was sunburn but a little from our lunch at the Flying Dutchman Queenborough

Over the winter I have installed hydraulic steering and got a new Main and this was the first real test very pleased with both. I can now leave the helm and it stays put and with a F4 gusting 5 ASHANTI was quite controlable

Still have a few bugs to iron out with the slugs catching on the mast gate but will get sorted shortly.

Hope to see you on Windermere

Regards

John

John,

John,

Happy to hear that you got out on the water. Still a fortnight before Logan’s Run will get used.
