I used to trial my 26X a lot and agree tying the shrouds back stay is well worth it.
My only additional comment is that I supported the centre of the mast with a piece of 3"x 3" fence post type of wood with a "V" shape groove cut into the top. Seemed to work very well and much reduced any bounce.
I am near Alford and my boat is still at home on the farm being prepared to take to Loch Lomond. You would be most welcome to come and have a look and have a chat about how I do things. I have had Rahui for 15 years and have towed quite long distances ie to Holland and Croatia but am not an expert. Give me a call if you like 01975 581266.
Lots of very sensible comments.
