Hi all, we had some trouble with our anchor not holding 'Dixie' our 26m over the weekend. We have what I think is a standard 'Fortress' Danforth type Anchor (1.8kgs), which is attached to about 13m of chain and about 8m of warp. It was blowing about F5 and the anchor when fully deployed with 21m of 'scope' in about 3m of water the anchor wouldn't hold Dixie.
I think we have come to the conclusion that we don't have enough 'scope' for the 5:1 ratio and need to add more chain and /or warp.
Does anyone else have any experience or suggestions regarding such anchoring matters. :?:

Dixie 26m ;)

sort of sounds good... I've heard the fortress is an excellent anchor, but that still does not guarantee a hold on every type of bottom. In theory it seems one should have a range of anchors and a fishfinder sonar effort that tells you what the seabed is. Always a compromise.
We have a heavy fluked anchor similar to yours that seems to work quite well, with a spare CQR stashed in the useless spare sink.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.
