Hi
Jim Rotheram here just saying Hi. I bought my 26x last summer but had a lot of teething troubles with mast raising and furlers so have just had it on Windermere a couple of time without really sailing it. It has been a steep learning curve so far. I have passed dayskipper theory and practice but have not much experience other than a sailing holiday in greece. I am planning to keep 'Pen Gwyn' on a tidal mooring over the summer on the Wyre estuary. Is there anything I should be aware of besides mooring line length? I am a little worried that the outboard (Tohatsu 50hp) may be knicked as the mooring is on a public road. The road is a dead end and little used by anyone not boating or walking and there are houses overlooking the moorings. The O/B looks too heavy and well secured to be easily removed but any suggestions would be appreciated. I look forward to meeting some of you on one of the rallies over the summer
Regards
Jim

Pleased to meet you.

On the wyre? Brings back school memories.
To be fair most pro outboard thieveswill be out for 4strokes. The best you can do is make it hard for them. Wrap hard to cut stainless/hardened chain through the sensitive bits with lots of padlocks so they would have to wreck the engine to get it.
Sorry to hear of your headaches.. macs are pretty simple beasts when they work :-)
feel free to call me if you feel unsure about something
Cheers
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.
I would make sure you have security bolts on the outboard fittings and additional security suggest by Bjorn would move them onto somewhere else. I would also speak to the local police and find out what they suggest, they may also provide you with a free engine cover that warns off potential thieves. It was also suggested at the last agm to make sure your insurnace covers the cost of a new engine at todays prices not what you may have paid for it several years ago.

Welcome to the association, Jim.
I've been abroad for some time so I'm just catching up on things.
We keep our 26X Hera on the drive at home in Ormskirk - so not far from you if you ever need any help.
You'll have to catch us at home though! Off on the Scotland rally on Tuesday and then a short turn round time before the Morbihan rally!
Happy days!
Mike
