Clogged centreboards

I have a mud mooring. Centreboards do get jammed with mud and in our case it contains minute molluscs which cause real problems in the casing. Have any owners fitted overlapping Mylar strips along the opening which allow the centreboard to pass through but keep out unwanted detritus. In my dinghy racing days this was common practice to streamline the hull and reduce turbulence.

Hello. I also have a drying out mooring in Dartmouth. The boat is in the water all year and I have solved the problem by dropping the centre board at least once a month plus leaving it slightly lowered so there is a small amount of movement when it dries out each tide.
