Stating the obvious. Engine

Stating the obvious. Engine must be in water or ha e mugs running water ...if your not sure she works ideal to test on land.

Also depending on throttle design the trick to revving without engaginging gear is to pull throttle out sideways....took me a while to find that!

Best wishes on your adventures. I ha e just returned Aranah to the water today...Ah!

Thanks again, got her started

Thanks again, got her started after a bit of head scratching

Looking forward to getting her on the trailer tomorrow and bringing her home.

Looks like we are missing the plate of the foot of the mast though unless the previous owner had removed it a stored it on the boat for some reason

I have always taken a fully

I have always taken a fully charged battery booster, about £40.00 from Halfords with me. It helps start the motor after the winter lay-up and has come in useful on several occasions when the battery has gone flat.

The gear will only engage

The gear will only engage properly and drive the boat if the throttle leaver is pushed about 20% forward, otherwise it cuts out.

Good Luck

Helpful hint 're getting boat

Helpful hint 're getting boat onto trailer esp if cross wind or tide. The a rope from front v to the uprights each side so this can act as a guide bringing bow into the v . Some always are a bit shallow to drive boat onto trailer while still attached to car. These days I always attach a rope between trailer and toe ball to get my trailer in deeper. Needs a good jockey wheel .

When I was working on Tiftt

When I was working on Tiftt Loy (the Mac 19 that Tom has bought). I found an extension bar with a tow ball on one end and a light weight tow hitch on the other. The bar itself extended to approx 3 meters (square tube inside square tube) with a pin to to set the length. This obviously enabled the rig to moved clear of the ramp. (But not down hill unless you the boat to do a partial overtaking manoeuvre). THe only down side as far as I can is the additional weight they would be carried on the trailer. What a great idea if you’ve got no weight concerns.

Does anyone use a pneumatic jockey wheel. Are they any good?

Thanks for all the info

Thanks for all the info

We eventually got her sorted (with a bit of help from the marina) apparently pushing the key up as you turn it helps as well.

The only thing we got wrong was not inflating the trailer tyres to the correct pressure before we put the boat on it (assumed good pressure but with the boat on it they looked flat)

Next job is to start modernising her, bearing in mind this boat isn't far of a factory original boat.
New galley (going stainless steel sink & 2 ring combo)
2 new house batteries maintained by solar panel(s)
Some new lines
Extra electrics
and many more

Brace yourselves for more questions to come

TIA

Actually, has anyone fitted or had fitted a solar panel arch (I've heard & read about the negatives of shading on the panels even very small, so would rather get them away from the boom)

"Pushing the key in" - with

"Pushing the key in" - with carburettor engines this activates the choke, so is pretty essential for cold starting.

I fitted acrylic solar panels to my decks - you can walk on them. They've been very effective. See details in the Galleries (click here). May help with ideas.

You're obviously going to enjoy getting stuck in!

I’m just in the final throws

I’m just in the final throws of testing a control system for solar, mains & generator allowing me to charge the main battery or the leisure battery or both. During my investigation I found out that the charge controller I’m using must not be connected to any other charging system other than the main battery/engine charging system, so beware if you intend to put the batteries on charge whilst the batteries are connected.

As far as the panel goes I’m going to attach it to the rear mast transit support bracket and have it protruding to the rear horizontally (ish with adjustment available). I’m using Bimini brackets and stainless tube with a full size domestic panel. It might look a bit strange with such a large panel but our intention is to travel through the french canals to the med this year or next. Will also be carrying a generator, but hope not to need it. The system is capable of running a table top fridge and a cooker.

Hi Keith

Hi Keith

Would love to see photos when you have some

What size panel are you using ?

Where are you sourcing your Bimini brackets and tubing from ?

TIA
