I am considering sailing on Grafham and/or Ruland Water, which both prohibit the use of a petrol outboard. I am looking at a 12V trolling-type motor. Any suggestions? I do not want to spend a huge amount of money.

Hi David, I have very nice little used long shaft 12 volt electric o/b motor with new battery and battery box.at at £149.00 (-which is less than the motor cost alone ) you will have to fit an outboard bracket and I suggest you fit it to the rear starboard side. I know the lake and have sailed it myself. The motor has 4 speeds plus reverse. I live at Isleham Marina nr Newmarket post code for sat nave CB7 5SL. I will send you my full address if you are coming
Hi David,
I had my Mac 26x on Rutland for many years and used a minn kota 55 lbs thrust trolling motor. I don't think Grafham takes 26 footers but I might be wrong. It worked ok as long as the battery was well charged. You can usually pick them up on ebay relatively cheaply. A higher thrust one like the Torqeedo, would be great but they are much much more expensive.
Hope that helps,

That helps very much...thanks! Is the motor on offer the same one you mentioned here?
