I have a steering problem on my 26X. The cable needs changing any suggestions. Steering is very hard as it has almost ceased up.

Replacement cables are readily obtainable, I think your helm is a rack and pinion version in that model of 26X.
I had a look online for Teleflex rack cables, and came up with these two suppliers:

They are ridiculously expensive for a cable! There may be a supplier in Ireland, or probably more economic for you to source from Europe or even USA. Anyway, I think one of these is the item you need.
You will need to check the length of your existing cable, but consider getting one a bit longer. My 26X had a different model of helm, but the cable was very short which created sharp bends. When I replaced it I got one at least a foot longer (may be 2 feet, I don't remember), this allowed me to route it with more gentle bends which helped it run more smoothly.
Alternatively you could replace the entire helm with a hydraulic system!

Thanks Rick. I have not done anything yet since your visit . I just moved DUSTY to Mountshannon for safe keeping. I appreciate all the help I can get . Do you know whare I could source he hydraulic system from If I decide to go that route.

It's by our former commodore Björn Sjöling, describing the hydraulics he fitted to his 26X (and a lot more besides!).
