26M head door

Hi,
I am a new member of the association and new to MacGregors having just today completed the purchase of a previously owned 26M currently berthed in Falmouth so I suspect I shall be in touch quite frequently for hints and support.
My first problem is that the previous owner took off the bi-folding door to the heads and put it somewhere safe (where it still is and I am without)
Can a kindly soul let me have a photograph and measurements of a similar door so I can arrange to have one made up. I am lucky in a way that my nephew works in the design team of a yacht builders and has volunteered himself and some apprentices to sort out the bits and bobs.
Boat will be delivered to Gallions Reach in the new year.
Many thanks in advance
Simon Armitage

Hi Simon, I've just noticed that no-one has replied to your request for a photo of the bifold head door. Did you get a photo from anyone or are you still waiting? If so, let me have your email address and I will be pleased to send a couple of photos or three on to you.

Re: 26M head door

Hi, Paul,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Happy New Year to you and Good Sailing in 2013.
I did get pictures from the website but nothing about measurements so I set my nephew to work on it. I am lucky in that he works in the design team at Pendennis Yachts in Falmouth and is quite good at bespoke designs so he has made it a challenge for a bunch of apprentices and will come up with a template and choice of materials (would you believe) for me to choose from, before it is installed, so all will be well in the end. It is not simply a rectangular door, I gather, from looking at the pictures, so on doors I think all is well.
Thanks for your interest and hope to meet you soon at one of the gatherings.
Simon :)

Re: 26M head door

Ah, before you go commissioning your door, it may require slightly more thought than you'd at first think. The normal OE door, when closed, leaves very little room for legs, when sitting, and certainly no standing room and trouser pulling up space, so it is best to have the door opening across the width of the boat, which means over the side seat. This you would probably do anyway, but I will take a couple of snaps and show the door in the normal closed position and in the 'open across the boat' position, which will help you make a decision. I'll measure it for you too.

I also have some small bit of the original material which I would be quite happy to let you have for matching purposes, if it helps your choice and may be a closer match to the few other wooden bits in the boat [table, bulkhead, etc]

Re: 26M head door

Thanks very much for this most helpful advice, Paul.
My boat is currently in Cornwall and I am in East London so some of these things are difficult to visualise from afar.
I have forwarded your comments to my nephew and will be visiting him early in Feb before he starts work. This will give me the opportunity to view a 26M at the boat show and refresh my memory.
As for colour, my nephew suggested that he lacquer the door in a colour similar to the interior decoration to make the cabin lighter in appearance so I am considering this

Many thanks again for your valuable responses

Simon - If you are coming to the boat show in January then why not bring some thin paper such as decorating lining paper which is quite cheap you can then trace the outline of the door to make a pattern which might help.

Re: 26M head door

Thanks for this useful advice Colin.
I asked my nephew what knowledge I could glean from the experts while at the boat show but he is probably still celebrating Christmas and the New Year and hasn't found time to reply to his dear old uncle.
I shall find some lining paper as suggested and endeavour to make a template. This could provide some entertainment for you and your guests.
Looking forward to seeing you at Excel.
Simon
