I have a Mac 19 with a chunky Suzuki DT 40 C 2 stroke outboard. It has been recently serviced so I took the Mac out for a leisurely 5 knot trip on the Solent this weekend. I was hoping to get the sail up but alas not enough wind, but I had already filled the ballast tank, so I motored across from Southsea to Bembridge a trip of about 6 miles. To my horror I consumed 7 litres of fuel in 5 miles :o . Surely that can't be right can it?????
Another really annoying thing about this engine is that the back eddy's force dreadful carbon monoxide fumes into the cockpit. I was going to setup a soffit board across the transom with a rubber sheet hanging from it which I could cut around the outboard to seal the cockpit from the outboard, but I wonder if the fumes will just creep over the top. Has anyone else experienced this problem and do you have any suggestions.
Thanks
Eamonn.

shocking... but not. Old strokers and full ballast can suck the old cans dry alarmingly quickly. Out nissan 50 can be a thirsty beast at times.
You should get away quite easily with a 25-30hp 4stroke I'd of thought?
SOme folk do that with their 26s too to good effect.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is.
