Furler type luff tape size required

Hi all I'm ordering a replacement Jib for our 2005 Mac 26M from Exe sails Topsham Devon they need to know the type of Furler we've got. Ours was supplied with the boat when we bought it and looking at the members spec info I think it is a CDI Furler requiring a #6 luff tape does this mean 6mm guys?

kind regards

Ian Tyrrell (Atthis)

Hi Ian , yes it would be a CDI flexible furler . I've looked them up snd it seems the luff rope size is #6. You're probably correct that means 6mm but maybe not since other sizes on their website are imperial.....like most original bolts on the Mac .

Hi Roly thanks for your reply

Hi Roly thanks for your reply I had a bet with myself that you would be a quick respondent and thanks. I did copy off the Mac members tech info pages to the sailmaker who mailed me that #6 is 5mm the size he had thought it should be.
when I get the sail I'll post an opinion on same, later in May. Prices pick and mix ex vat. Jib £650 UV strip £125 pull up zipped sock £250. Choice of 5.6 or 6.3 ozs Dacron inc kind regards Ian Tyrrell Atthis

For comparison , genoa for my M , with uv strip and 6iz dacron cost me 840.00 inclusive of vat , in 2019. NJO Sails Southampton.

I feel socks are a pain to put on at the end of sail but they have advantage of uv protection if you have various foresails and also protect more when towing.

Hi. I collected my new

Hi. I collected my new foresail Friday 3May, it looks and feels excellent quality and fabrication, I had 6.3 Dacron on sailmaker's advice rather than the 5.6 I'm hoping that's the right decision as it seems pretty stiff but yet too be worked of course. Instead of a UV strip new pull up sock which also looks excellent quality. We've used a sock regularly for years and they really do extend the life of sails albeit as Roly says abit of a faff after sailing. Il post a progress report when back on the boat, for clarity the prices I posted are not inc vat

Almost forgot, with reference

Almost forgot, with reference to 6.3 as to 5.6 Dacron (there no price difference) weight and stiffness it might be a good time to update the furler cable, l believe this was a recent topic, I'll try and find it to see if a diy job. Regards all Ian T
