I thought I would inform members that contrary to popular believe there seem to be a number of available munipal mooronmgs on the Hamble River that are very suitable for a Macgregor. I have had one such mooring for about 9 years . Many of them are between 2 piles sharing with another boat but there are also some pile mpoorimgs that have a pontoon to tie up to in exactly the same way as at a marina . I have had a pontoon for the last 5 years which is an easy row several marinas or a public slip and is in a prettyu part of the river with swans and possibility of swimming off the boat .

The river mooring fee has been less than £600 plus a small annual river licence . The pontoon was a one off payment of £1000.00 to the previous owner . Upkeep of the pontoon and chains is shared with partner boat .

I only became aware of the available places last year when my neighbour decided to move to a larger pontoon in preparation for an investment . His previous place remained unused all year , unfilled by the Hamble Harbour Authority . I decided to move to his pontoon assuming mine would be taken up quickly since it is a deep water ( all states of tide ) pontoon but so far they have not managed to allocate it ! I am amazed . They tell me that they have names on a waiting list but no one has said they want the pontoon . We coyuld discuss It may be they are waiting for larger spaces or nearer to mouth of Hamble ( in the very busy section ! ) .

So , I thought that it might be that another Macgregor member would like to take advantage of this inside lnowledge . They wont let me directly put you onto my old pontoon but if you apply to Hamble Harbour and pay your token fee you could then ask to go onto any of the free slots including my old one on M08/09. How could they refuse ?! We could discuss a reasonable cost to buy my share of the pontoon.
