Hello all we have 26 x Mac and we are replacing engine this year our mechanic is struggling with steering connection and has recommended we get a new fitting from behind the helm all the way to engine as he says there's a problem connecting to the engine. Steering played up last year . Does anyone have any advice if we order new parts ? please contact me 07854410786.

When I had an X I actually had to replace the entire helm because it was seized up. But it seemed to me that the standard cable fitted to the X was too short, resulting in tight bends. When I bought the new helm I ordered a cable I think 2ft longer. This allowed for a wider sweep and more gentle bends. It did need supporting at the starboard extremity though to prevent it sagging into the berth space. I just screwed a small bracket to the berth ceiling and used a cable tie to suspend it.
