Macgregor boating events 2026 /27 Discussion

In advance of our next AGM ...which WE HAVE PLANNED FOR 28th FEB (in Warwick ).... it would be good to start some discussion of possible events . ( MORE DETAILS OF THE AGM WILL BE SENT OUT IN THE JANUARY NEWSLETTER ....BUT PLEASE SAVE THE DATE/ WEEKEND .since we often enjoy more time together )

Last year we made a rather loose decision to hold a main event in Ireland . Its been a number of years since we have ventured there to join in with our Irish fraternity. Undoubtedly the reports of the last trip were of a great enjoyable time so hopefully this can be repeated this year or if not then in 2027. IT WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL TO KNOW THE INTEREST AMONG MEMBERS AND YOUR AVAILABILITY ASAP SO WE CAN BEGIN PLANNING THIS .

In addition the MOA would encourage local/ regional events to take place through the year since these permit people to join in either trailing their boat or coming along as crew .

IT WOULD BE REALLY GOOD TO HAVE YOUR OTHER SUGGESTIONS .....

One possibility could be a south coast meeting based from Poole in Dorset

Another could be an inland waterway event such as the Kennet and Avon canal or Thames

Alternatively a meet up on the River Medway could permit some mast down river cruising combined with exploration of the Medway and Thames estuaries under sail.

Plymouth always provides a base for good and varied sailing or , further west there is Falmouth.

Looking ahead to 2027 we have had a suggestion maybe of a MOA event in Scotland and / or crossing the Chanel by ferry to France of Holland.

PLEASE ADD YOUR THOUGHTS FOR DISCUSSION

Hello again ,  and Happy New

Hello again , and Happy New Year. Please excuse my slight cajoling but since I haven't seen any response to my last posting on this subject of MOA boating I thought I'd prompt some further thought and action. I know we can discuss things at the AGM but that won't include everyone and it would be nice to have some ideas worked out before then .

So far I have reached out to Tom in Ireland wrt best time for him and others if we went to Ireland

I have also begun to investigate possibility of a R. Medway adventure.

I've also made some contact regarding an event based in Poole which could be spring or summer.

I really do want to gauge the level of interest before making more plans for either of these so it would be great if people could reply with some idea of your wishes/hopes for 2026.I hope to hear soon but Im going to be on holiday till the end of the month so might not react till then.

Hi Roly,

Hi Roly,

We are definitely interested in whatever events are organised but unfortunately due to ageing relatives and an aged dog we can't commit to any events at distance or longer than a weekend. We will be able to make events relatively local to us in Wiltshire, Hampshire, Somerset, Devon & Dorset.

Many thanks for all your efforts to get us on the water!

Best regards

Mark

ps ref AGM - Julie is a Coeliac!

Hi, Ideas for a future

Hi, Ideas for a future Scotland event- Kippford in Dumfries & Galloway - the Solway Yacht club is open to event bookings. There is lovely sailing in the Solway firth. Alternatively marinas at Inverkip, Largs, or Ardrossan gives access to the firth of Clyde, Great Cumbrae, Bute & Holy Loch. Beautiful sailing with amazing scenery!

Hi Roly, well done for

Hi Roly, well done for getting in early with some suggestions. Unfortunately I am away for the AGM dates.

Anything Solent / Poole I am definitely in for, dates allowing, and happy to take a role in arranging something.

If there is interest it would be great to get an early one in April/May time for anyone local to Solent.

Look forward to catching up soon!

Ok , it will be good to

Ok , it will be good to discuss these and other suggestions at the AGM next week but for thise that cant come please do drop your thoughts/ hopes/ dreams onto this forum which can be ongoing. Im still waiting for replies on feasibilty of Poole Bay launching and also the Medway . Regarding Ireland , I have a quote for van / boat Holyhead to Dublin return £ 565 plus 30 for flexi fare . Their trailer lengths go up to 8m and then 12m and Im 9.30 from hitch to outboard but some Macs might squeeze below. I suspect Chanel crossings to France or Holland would be similar or more. ( a good few yrs ago a recall it was about £450 to St Malo) w boat.

If Poole looks tricky for early May we can always revert to Solent ( and maybe sail to Poole ! ) .
