West Coast of Scotland mid-July, 2025

Chris Harnan and I have penned in a cruise departing from my berth at the James Watt Dock Marina in Greenock, on the weekend 12/13 July. We will be sailing Verlesque, a Verl 900, not a Mac. Our plans will be entirely weather dependent but, after my last chat with Chris, the No 1 plan favours going direct to the Crinan Canal, through it and then an exploration of the islands north, perhaps as far as Mull - and back the same way. But, a return license to transit the canal, is approx £325 for a Mac - if my calculations are correct. Alternatively, a passage south to round the Mull of Kintyre and then head north for a return through the Crinan, is also an option. Option 3 is to meander within the Firth of Clyde and perhaps visit some of those areas often overlooked, like, in no particular order, the top of Loch Fyne, Loch Long, Girvan, Campbelltown, Kip and Glasgow itself. Chis and I have pencilled in 9/10 days. If anyone is interested in joining in, please express your interest here and we can start a discussion. Largs is probably the best place to launch a Mac and to start the cruise. I know that, after the last Big Mac in Scotland, Roly, Ros, Jonathan and Miriam made the trip through the Crinan and had some interesting tales to tell afterwards. Perhaps it's a rite of passage that we all have to undertake at some stage in our lives.

I wrote a long piece about mine and Chris Harnan's plans but they haven't revealed themselves on my post. I will rewrite shortly. Not an auspicious start!

OK, let's try again. Chris

OK, let's try again. Chris and I intend to depart James Watt Dock Marina on weekend of 12/13 July aboard Verlesque, a Verl 900, not a Mac. Plan A is to go straight to and through the Crinan Canal and explore north towards Mull and back again. Plan B is to round the Mull of Kintyre and then head north via Oslay and Jura and return through the Crinan. Plan C is to explore the Firth of Clyde with time to visit less-visited places such as, in no particular order, the upper reaches of Loch Fyne, Girvan, Campbelltown, Glasgow, Loch Long and so on. We have 9 or 10 days at our disposal. If anyone is interested in joining in, please post on this forum and we can start a discussion.

Hi, myself and Chris Hollis

Hi, myself and Chris Hollis are interested in the trip, however the earliest that we could get to Largs would be the evening of Sunday 13 July as I've got a family wedding on the Sat. I think the latest we could launch on the Sunday is about 6pm. If all went to plan, we could be possibly ready to go Monday 14th morning. Our preferred option would be Option C.
