Hello All,
I've had the mast up and down quite a few time on my 26M. It's generally been quite straightforward but there is always a tendency for the mast to want to lean over to starboard, well beyond the side of the boat.
Last weekend a gust caught it midway and caused the lower bracket to collapse a bit.
Can anyone here confirm whether this lean is to be expected or should the mast come up/down centred (assuming that the boat is level of course),
Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick , I think we might have discussed the importance of the baby stays which attach to the mast at the same point as the M mast raising system. The original manual says never to undo the bowline loop that is there , the reason being that the size of the loop is critical to ensure that the baby stays remain tight enough to prevent mast tilt especially at the mid point of manoeuvre. It may be that some adjustment of these is required. The other things that can cause mast to tilt one way are....cross wind, weight of the furler on spreaders , uneven tension on the shrouds , kink in the shrouds either at top or bottom.....remember the golden rule...if it seems tough something is probably wrong ! ....caught or twisted.
Good luck and persevere...Roly
Thanks, Roly. I'll have a look at the baby stays, I have no idea whether they are the correct length, but I'm sure that I can tweak it with this in mind... and I'm sure the bowline *has* been undone!
