Hi need a new centre board for my 26x, has anyone got any updates on a possible uk supplier ?. Or is it straight to blue water yachts. Probably go though insurance so will need a few quotes.
Hi Anthony, what happened to the original keel? Personally if it past repairing I would make a solid one as a new one is over a thousand pounds including import taxes. I would make a wooden one with some lead inserted then cover with plenty of glassfibre then finish with a gelcoat at a fraction of the price of a new one. The only downside is that the boat will be a little bit heavier on the trailer. I have a engineering shop near me that has made a much stronger keel hanger for mine at a fraction of the cost of a new one.
1/3 rd broken of as i hit something submerged, I think I am insured so was going with the new option. I am not skilled enough to make a new one unfortunately. But it may be an option if I can find someone local in Devon.
Hi Tony, that can definitely be repaired no problem. It must've hit something very hard to take that amount of keel off. I can send you a paper template of the whole keel if you want. I've just added some lead to the bottom of my keel as I found my keel was getting clogged up with a lot of silt.
Thanks Andrew, I am trying to go through my insurance, retreat boat yard assessed the damage yesterday and felt a professional repair would cost more than a new one and they would have to guarantee it. A home repair may invalidate the insurance should the worse happen, and psychologically it will always be in the back of my mind . But thank you for the offer of a template,
No idea what I hit, but it went with a hell of a bang and in 4mtr depth. In the exe estury.
Yep , as in Andys reply , I think most X owners have had them manufactured in UK. I'm not sure by whom. Maybe other members can advise on this or perhaps Andy your engineer took measurements.
No problem with the X being solid since it can kick up but the M daggerboard needs to be lighter weight to be sacrificial and hence the grp mold that was made . A number of M daggerboards were made by a fabricator in Scotland a few years ago but we have now sold the spare that was held by MOA.
Hi Tony , I don't know whether you did a search on previous forum threads re centreboards but I see in 2016 someone imported one from a company called Ruddercraft , based in Idaho. ...cost about 650 USD or nearly 700 if relocated. Not sure how that compares w BWY but I guess at those prices you will go for insurance claim. It may of interest to remind members that we do hold the full engineering drawings for the Macgregor boats ( don't know how we got them).

Cheers, I am sure someone will come up with something, if not it will have to be insurance I think.
