Hello I have water leaking down the external
Shrouds on to the chain plate, I would like to know can I drill out the old rivets holding the plate to the deck and fill the gap with marine sealant and replace with new rivets, I do not know what is under the plate to secure new rivets advice most welcome

Hi Chris
This is definitely the best way to seal the chain plates. The rivets don't actually secure the plate, they just hold the steel cover plate down. The plate itself is anchored through the side of the hull via the bolts you can see below the hull join.
So by removing the cover plate you can get sealant well into the chain plate slot. I don't think there's any backing plate or even backing washers for the pop rivets. But you should be able to remove the internal access plugs and see or feel what's there.
BTW, my favourite sealant is Everbuild PU40. Everbuild is a brand owned by Sika, and to me, PU40 is indistinguishable from Sikaflex - apart from being half the price! You can get it from Toolstation among other places.
