Hi Folks
My Yamaha 60 high thrust is unwell; milky oil.
I'm taking it to get fixed but might end up selling for spares
A replacement is about £9k but there are very few Yamaha dealers here in Scotland.
I have been offered a Tohatsu or Suzuki 60 for £7 or £8k.
I'm thinking of the Tohatsu but unsure about the standard prop.
Does anyone have experience?

It might be worth a question on one of the American groups. I have the Yamaha 50 Sail Drive I.e. it has the large high thrust propellor for a displacement boat. However our boat is light and can go on the plane so I wonder if a more standard propellor designed more for speed and fitted to a lot of outboards, might be suited to anyone wanting to use the boat for playing at speed in calm waters rather than being able to force through rough waters.
We have had a lot of discussion about propellors with the emphasis often on speed, which does overlook the need for power in rough conditions. A lot of Americans just go for more powerful motors 70 80 or more hp which clearly give speed and power. But they have the advantage of much cheaper fuel.
Last year when pushing through some very difficult water travelling up to Mull I was glad we had plenty of power and I would forgo speed for that purpose.
