Hi after some advice i am after a replacement battery for under the steering consual, i have a two battery system so its only for engine really, the one in is very tight its a 65amp leisure, and i can only remove it by undoing 2 of the consual deck bolts, i am looking for something that will fit in and be removed easily if needed, high amp but small size, have you any recommendations please, thanks tony 26x brixham ,devon

Battery replacement

Sorry, Tony, that no-one has been back to you. I am no expert but carried 2 batteries, one for the engine and one for the rest.I also used to take with me, a battery pack, bought from Halfords. Batteries were kept in a well under the companionway and were secured by a metal frame. I think battery technology is changing rapidly.
If the Maccers can't help and that is very rare, speak to the electricians in the Marina or Boat Yard.
If it's only for starting, a) you don't need a leisure battery, a starter battery (normal car type) is better, b) 65aH is unnecessarily large, 45aH should be ample. The demands of the starter are not big, and if it doesn't start quickly then you've got a problem with the engine that needs fixing!
A 45aH starter battery is also much cheaper than a 65aH leisure.

It is difficult to find a battery that fits in the steering console, but I found one at Halfords. But having sold the boat and all the files I don't have the battery number.
Thanks for advice went with a number 54 varta 40amp, which fits in perfectly and there is enough room to put another one in and piggyback them giving me 80 amps, there both new so should be fine joning them. However 1 turns it over fine.
Cheers tony.
Replaced starting battery with NOCO Lithium NLP30 700A. Works a treat, connected it to 30W solar panel and cheap PWM inverter.
Replaced house battery with Chinese 100AH Llithium as well, connected to 100W solar panel / MPPT inverter.
NOCO is only 8AH, but starts the Yamaha 50 no problem, recharges quickly from alternator. DC-DC charger diverts the surplus current to charge the house battery.
Never had to connect to mains this season at all yet, all self-sustainable.
