26x mast angle

Hi all, have a mac 26x 2000, just wondering if the mast should tilt aft, i know the manual states 94 degrees, and its been out the water since end of last season so have now made a 94 degree wooden guide to check it this year when back in the water. but last year it looked so out of place in the marina next to other sailers with a pronounced tilt aft compared with other sailers, is this normal for a 2000 26x ? . Thanks tb.

Hi Tony

Hi Tony

Although the manual recommends an aft rake, I found when I had a 26X that it sailed better with the mast close to upright. It helped to reduce rounding up. It's not over critical, and something you can experiment with.

Interestingly, my 19 is best with the mast at the officially recommended rake angle!

Hi Tony

Hi Tony

With the 26M Macgrogor gives a measurement from the anchor roller to the mast lifting point. I haven't read his instructions for the X. However angle isn't usually measured in relation to some point on the deck but rather to the waterline. This is generally achieved by using the main halliard from the head of the mast with a weight hanging from it just above the deck. You use height and distance from mast to calculate the angle.

You will find the details on line.
