so,
Logan's Run is still with the Engineers at French Marine in Titchmarsh. Seems they have ordered the wrong sized steering cable. The boat has been with them since 2 July. I have asked them to quote me for a hydraulic steering conversion.
The big question at this point, seeing how the season is drawing to a close is: Do I go get the boat and either do the work myself with parts from Blue Water Yachts, or do I just wait them out? I am not keen on having her sitting on the trailer in the damp marina all winter.
Thoughts would be very welcome!
reagards,
David

Hi David,
Good to hear from you, Sorry to learn that you still don’t have Logan’s Run back in action.
From what you have said I would say the Titchmarsh engineers are not competent and I think you should recover her to home and sort it yourself.
You can get the Hydraulic kit from the UK it’s Hydrive and if you check out Mike Clark’s post about steering you will find all the details.
It may be cheaper for you of course to get it from the US whichever you choose to do you will have the right gear and that should make the job easy.
Im really sorry that you have missed all the superb sailing weather this year - anyway we had a good time at the Big Mac - I have written an article for the Magazine with pictures - it’s with the editor now.
All the best with your repairs,
Kind Regards,
John

PS
I'm hoping to take ASHANTI on the upper Medway for October so if you fancy a day out let me know.
John,
Thanks for the kind words and advice. I probably will just bring her home tomorrow....sigh!
Thanks also for the wonderful time on Ashanti! Good luck on the Medway. Try using just your motor as rudder. It works unless the current is very much against you.

I think you should bring her home. July 2nd? There’s nothing you can’t order and get within 24 hours in the UK. Even if they got the wrong part, there’s no reason why the correct part shouldn’t have arrived a day later.
Bring her her home and do the job yourself. If you decide to use BW Yachts, I can bring the parts over from the USA ,saving international shipping and import duties. I’m over every few weeks. Let me know if I can help. I’d just mail the parts to you from Scotland.

Leigh,
Thanks for the advice, and the kind offer. I have a U.S. post box here, so getting the parts is no problem.

How does that work ? I’d be interested in setting that up myself once I retire

Unfortunately, it is only for those working for the good old US federal government. When I retire, I lose the privilage.

Okay...I am, God willing, bringing her home tomorrow. I am ordering everything new from the wheel to the rudders from BWY.
Anybody want to help me when it comes in?
Has anyone replaced a steering cable on a 26M?

Hi David. I think you wanted to know what size of line you need for your rudder release cleats. I'm not sure size of mine but I think they're probably 5mm.
