trailer wheel flushing systems.

Hi

Indespension do a wheel flushing kit that they say will fit any brake system. The cost to buy and fit on a double axle trailer is £210. The text on the adverts focus on flushing the brake system but do not mention bearings. Does anyone have any info on these systems i.e. are they effective.

Any info gratefully received.

Yes I've fitted flushing to several trailers, it will remove a good proportion of the salt and save both brakes and bearings. You must be disciplined about flushing ASAP after dunking the axles in. If you buy pipe and fittings yourself you can do it for around half the price of the kits.

I have a plan (yet to get that far down the list) to mount a plastic water tank on the trailer connected to the wheel flushing. So I can then:
Launch and immediately flush using the water in the tank while the trailer is parked.
Recover then go to a tap flush wheels and engine and refill the tank.

That way the bearings and brakes never get left with salt in them.

I used a  roll of cheap hose

I used a roll of cheap hose pipe and hose lock connectors connected to each brake back plate.

It works fine.

I then fitted bearing buddies that i imported from the use that provides constant grease pressure to the wheel bearings.

Since then, i have not had to change any bearings and i am i to my 5 th year.

Yes I endorse the bearing

Yes I endorse the bearing savers. I've had far less problem since fitting them.

The flush kits do not actually flush the bearing but reduce the chance that any salt left in God hubs works it's way into the bearing grease. The slight positive pressure from the savers helps deter this and also means you can't suck in water via the breather hole on the hub cap (because there isn't one!) I now also have flush kit and intend to do what dave suggests

£210 for a flushing kit - you

£210 for a flushing kit - you must be joking! Al-Ko do a tandem axle for around £70, but even that's a lot of money.

I've just fitted a system on my single-axle, I bought the unions and tube on eBay, total cost around £15. I've started writing it up with pictures for the web site, haven't quite finished yet. I'll try to sort it out soon as I can.

How many of you also rinse out the box structures of your trailer frame? I run water down them all for about 5 minutes each.
