The other day I decided to try out reefing my mainsail for the first time.
I followed the manual's instructions but as soon as I released the clew outhaul the sail tore between the outhaul eye and the boom boltrope.
Really annoying, I should have left the outhaul attached and added a new one at the reefing point - grrr!
I guess they just copied the old instructions for loose-footed sails, which would have been ok.
Anyway, does anyone have any experience of making a repair in this area?

Yes. Always leave clew tension rope fixed and do not use clew Cringleford to fix reefing line since that could pull up on the clew. I have ripped mine a bit in past by doing that and in a strong gust.
It needed sail maker to neatly stitch a bit of nylon sheaf around Bolt rope and onto sail such that it could still slide. Has lasted many years since then.

Thanks Roly, I'll have a look.
